MP3 The Whiskey Ring - Better Than Some, Worse Than Others

Post punk folk/rock

11 MP3 Songs
ROCK: American Underground, FOLK: Folk-Rock

Details:
The Whiskey Ring began as the mutual project of singer/songwriter Peter McCoy and guitarist Jonathan Eliot in 2006. The two developed a distinctive style of folk rock with an underlying power/pop sensibility. Lyrically heavy, the songs rely strongly on their settings to paint colorful stories of modern life in the Midwest. Despite the emphasis on lyrics, guitarist Jonathan Eliot does a masterful job of meshing Chuck Berry style solos with the catastrophic feedback wails of Dinosaur Jr.

Once the song structures were completed the duo needed a strong rhythm section to tie the songs together. In step Duane Perry and Paul Staples. Known for their prowess on the Saint Louis rock scene for years, Duane and Paul stepped in and easily provided the backbeat that would add an elevated energy to the tracks.

The bands debut full-length, entitled “Better Than Some, Worse Than Others” was released in May of 2008. Produced, mixed and recorded in South Saint Louis by Jason Hutto, and mastered in Chicago by Carl Saff, the album is guaranteed to turn some heads.
