George Scherer began his career as a performing musician at the tender age of three, when he climbed on a piano bench at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church in Hueytown, AL, and sang all the verses to "The Old Rugged Cross" for the Sunday morning congregation.

Later that year, while in Children''s Hospital, he amazed and entertained the nurses with renditions of "Your Cheatin'' Heart" and "Kawliga" by Hank Williams. Although, he only began making his living as a musician in 1992, he has been singing all his life, and playing guitar and writing songs since his first year in college.

Since 1992, George has performed his eclectic mix of "folk-rock & country-blues" at clubs and other venues in Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, Huntsville, Auburn-Opelika, Anniston, Gadsden, Decatur, Troy, Mobile and Gulf Shores, as well as in Atlanta, Ga (Eddie''s Attic), Maggie Valley, NC, & Greenville, MS.

He has performed at the 1st Annual Johnny Shines Memorial Concert at the Old Train Station in Tuscaloosa, where he played his "Cold Ground Blues (Blues for Johnny)", a tribute to the late Delta bluesman, Do-Dah-Day in Birmingham, the Sunday night, Songwriter''s Night at the famous Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, the Celebrate Marietta Festival in Marietta, Ga, during the Olympics, at BayFest in Mobile, and at the Briarfield Music Festival just south of Birmingham.

Since the release of his first CD "Scherersongs" in 1995, he has been featured in The Birmingham News, and has been written up in Hotline (B''ham), South by Southeast (Auburn), The Free Press (Montgomery) The Mobile Press-Register , Playground (Columbus, Ga) and The Birmingham Post-Herald.

On March 6, 1996, Scherer and the CD were featured on the the Southern Exposure segment on the WBMG-TV (Channel 42), 6 O''clock News. Various cuts from the CD have been played on WUOA-FM (All Things Acoustic), WVSU-FM in Birmingham, WETS-FM in Johnson City, TN, WUWF-FM in Pensecola and he has performed live on WRFG-FM in Atlanta.

George''s typical set list, includes such diverse influences as Leadbelly, Robert Johnson, Hank Williams, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Townes Van Zandt, Johnny Cash, Tom Petty, REM and Beck. His original music is heavily influenced by these and other sources, and deals with subjects such as love ("Bucksville Woman"), music ("Radio Rodeo" and "Street Singer Blues"), the pursuit of dreams ("Chasin'' Trains"), religion ("Rich Young Ruler"), Elvis ("Tupelo") and social issues ("Carpetbagger''s Wind" and "Livin'' By The Gun").

Reviews:
"A student of Bob Dylan and Hank Williams, Scherer blends rock and folk into songs that feature a solid Southern perspective..."
-Shawn Ryun, The Birmingham News

"The music on George''s CD is an easy listen. The tunes and lyrics are mellow and reflective, and it''s easy to hear the influence of Hank Williams Sr. in his work. But sounds can be deceiving. George has a subversive streak that may not immediately be obvious."
-Katie Lamar, South by Southeast, Auburn, AL

"...His debut CD contains 12 tracks of country-blues-rock with influences from Cash to Dylan scattered throughout. On "Just Bein'' Me", I notice a slight Townshend style mixed with harmonica and a nifty hook. "The Moon is my Mistress" gets down with bongo craziness and some fab violin/mandolin action. . . . And for some county-swing action, check out the Redbone styles of "Lonesome Ghost".
