MP3 Good Face For Radio - ROCK: Americana

Firm, yet yeilding. Tongue-in-cheek Alt. Country Americana mixed up with some noisy art rock.

10 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Americana, ROCK: Roots Rock

Details:
Good Face For Radio was formed from the ashes of the burned out bands that came before us. My previous two bands (Phineas Gage and No Soap Rodeo) had broken up just before a second CD was to be recorded. Disappointed that some good songs were going to go unheard, I enlisted some friends to record some of those "lost" songs as well as some new ones. There were essentially three different sessions with somewhat different lineups. After the recording was completed, we decided to gig the material.

Anyway, here are some quick Bios of the live band:

Karl Stevens: I''m originally from Boston where I barely survived getting a degree in Film Scoring from the Berklee College of Music. Some of my songs have appeared in movies (Phineas Gage appears on the soundtrack of White face by Brian McDonald) and I''ve had material licensed by those whacky cats at MTV for their timeless show called "The Real World." Incidentally, they paid us a buck to license two songs (no lie). The Stranger has called my material "Distinctively Entertaining, The Seattle Weekly labeled the music "Dark Pop" and I think it was the Seattle Gay News who said I was insane in very disturbing way. Actually, they didn''t say that - they said much nicer things like "for those who prefer their music to cast a dark yet happy shadow" and " Vocalist Karl Stevens can growl like a young Tom Waits."

Anyway, over the years I''ve had some great opportunities to play with a lot of fearless and courageous musicians including Bill Horist, Eyvind Kang, Amy Denio, Jim Knodle, Kaz Murphy, Nancy Wharton, David Crellin, and a zillion others.

Dean Moore: Dean and I have been playing music together for a very long time. I first met him when we both answered the same classified ad for musicians wanted - that band incidentally morphed in Phineas Gage. He''s a transplanted LA native. Beside every Seattle based band I''ve played in, Dean has also played in the California based bands, including Jackie and Marilyn. Currently, he''s also a member of the band 669. Other interesting projects that he''s gotten involved with in past include Blue World and Gamelan Pacifica.

Cheri Johnson: After recording the basic tracks for the CD, Dean and I hooked up with Cheri when he and I were playing in a backing band for aspiring vocalists. Cheri blew us away and tore down the house. She''s a small town girl with a big city voice. She hails from a Tonasket, WA - population 994. Currently, she is also playing with 669 as well as singing cabaret and jazz at places like Tula''s. Don''t be fooled by her good looks, she''s got a set of pipes that will blow the windows off most clubs.

Michael Shuler: Michael, Dean, and I had all played music before in various projects (the infamously unreleased Louis Armstrong Tribute immediately jumps to mind). Over the years, Michael has been involved with a virtual who''s who the Seattle music scene, people like Gary Heffern, Christy McWilson, Tarantula Orchestra, The Picketts, Circus Contraption, not to mention his own band - strangely enough called Michael Schuler Band. And he ain''t just a guitar playing demi-god either, he''s also got "studio cred" - having produced or engineered recordings for the likes of The Young Fresh Fellows, Scott McCaughey, Gary Heffern, and the walkabouts. Michael is one of those guys that never play the same thing the same way twice. When he does it, it is artistry. When I do it, it means I forgot the words again.

Ben Hadley (AKA Banjo): came to us from the other side of the hall at the practice space. He plays da bass. He plays it real good. He was and still does play with Bill Horist (Seattle''s well known fresh faced guitar freak, another former Phineas Gage alumnus who also appears on the CD). Anyway Ben rocks and incidentally, can really whistle like a mofo. Having recently spent a Sunday afternoon bar hoping with him, I am keenly aware of his legendary ability to toss back a few cold ones.
That''s my story and I''m sticking with it.

Karl
