“…rousing…, a lyrical triumph…, a tender-voiced, campfire-dwelling Americana wellspring of wetland pride…”

The mission of the Banana Slug String Band is to network with like-minded organizations whose goal it is to work for a healthy environment through education. It will take us all working together to make sure our children inherit a livable environment because, as the title song of the new CD says, "We all live downstream, someone else is living up from us. We all live downstream, someone else is further down."
For 23 years, the award-winning Banana Slug String Band (BSSB) has been educating, entertaining and performing for family and school audiences. We have produced 9 CDs, one video (DVD) and one book.
During this time we have had the pleasure of working on successful educational CD projects. “Slugs at Sea” was a 1991 recording project, funded by MARE (Lawrence Hall of Science at U.C. Berkeley), which provides musical introductions and lessons based on concepts for MARE K-8 curriculum.
In 1999, the Teton Natural History Association, the Teton Science Center, and the Museum of Wildlife Art funded the BSSB CD “Goin’ Wild in Yellowstone and the Tetons,” which focused on ecological issues relevant to the national parks. The CD won several awards including the American Federation for Independent Musicians Children’s Album of the year.
The BSSB children’s book, “River Song,” illustrates the water cycle. The band has just released its ninth CD, “We All Live Downstream,” which focuses on watersheds.
Teachers regularly use BSSB songs in their science curricula. Several education sites refer to us as a resource. The band performs at schools
throughout the US and Canada.
