Details:
Cartoon Monster is the musical venture of experimental independent recording artist Tory Fiterre. In 1999, on his bedroom floor, he crafted his first songs, recorded onto nothing more than a boombox and a walkman, meticulousely bouncing tracks of keyboards, bass, guitar, and vocals between the two. Soon after, he recorded his first full length album on cassette 8-track. Over the next five years he released eight more albums, each more adventive and textural than the last, and each homemade in short-run batches of 20.
In 2005, after moving to Portland,OR, he set out to make his fullest, most elaborate album to date, The Dying Sea. In his first official release, he layers quavering vocals, subtle lyrics, soft beats and rumbling keyboards to create an atmosphere utterly unique yet approachable. Between the clean, simple riffs and lilting melody of "towne breathe" to the distorted guitar groans of "what you say", the album is an excellent display of Fiterre''s recording fluency.
Cartoon Monster''s "The Dying Sea" embodies the experimental spirit of today''s independent music while embracing the wholesomeness of early folk music.
