James Polk grew up in Corpus Christi, Texas and has always been fascinated with creating music. James has been a High School Band Director, Buyer of Manufacturing Products for IBM, Musician, Writer, Conductor & Arranger for the Ray Charles Orchestra and Associate Director of Jazz Studies at Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. Polk arranged two songs for Ray Charles that were nominated for Grammy Awards (Ain''t It So - 1979, and I Wish You Were Here Tonight - 1983). He also arranged the Ray Charles Christmas CD.
Dr. James Polk recently retired from the School of Music at Texas State University with the distinct honor of Professor Emeritus. He is currently resurrecting the Twink Record Label hoping by doing so it will help other musicians in the Texas area realize their dreams of producing good music as well as his own.
