Wakely is a four piece rock band from Colorado Springs, Colorado. Their sound is very versatile, pulling influences of yesterday, while blending indie and metal. Together since 2007, Joseph Lancaster, (lead vocals, guitar), Rob Verosko, (guitar), Travis Morris (drums), and Joel Van Wingerden (bass, back up vocals) are releasing their debut EP Put This To Rest in April 2008. The band was formed through myspace. com, through trial and error, when Rob and Travis wanted to start a new band together. They needed a vocalist and bassist, and found Joe who was a vocalist and guitarist looking for a new band because he had just moved to Colorado from California. Coincidentally, Joe had worked with Joel previously and everything fell into place. They started practicing together and had a great chemistry from the start. They couldn’t decide on a band name, so they pulled out the telephone book, and agreed that whatever name they landed on would be the band’s name. And so Wakely was formed.
Together, the four members of Wakely have a number of years of musical experience. Joe has been playing guitar for 5 years, and singing for 4. Rob has been playing guitar for 13 years. Travis has been playing the drums for 14 years. And, last but not least, Joel has been playing the bass for 5 years, and recently started pursuing back up vocals.
Travis is twenty-four years old and enjoys techno music, he often makes his own. He plays a four piece Gretsch drum set with a deep bass drum. He plays single bass, with a strong jazz influence. On Put This To Rest he does a lot of the screams. He has been active in the songwriting process for the band as well.
Joel is twenty-three years old and is one of twenty-three children therefore he is very social. He plays a Fender deluxe bass. He is also Wakely’s main back-up vocalist. In college he took musical theory courses. Joel has excellent stage presence.
Rob is twenty-two years old and grew up on indie and alternative music. He hails from Anaheim, California. He plays Fender Stratocasters, Fender Telecasters and other various guitars. He is very active in the songwriting process. He has a strong indie musical influence. He also dabbles with back-up vocals.
Joe is twenty-one years old and is the “funny one”. He plays a Dean ZX and an Epiphone SG. He is the lead singer of Wakely and also very involved in the songwriting process. He takes pride in playing complicated rhythms while singing. He has a metal background.
Together Wakely strives to never settle on a song structure, they always feel like there is room to grow. They have all agreed to never have a musical boundary, and to add originality to the music scene of today. Wakely plans to tour, starting in Colorado, and go from there.
