So much for the sophomore jinx. The New Jersey-based trio GLEN CLOSER follow up their widely-acclaimed CD Pine View Grocery with a collection of 10 new songs that will more than satisfy their old fans and, undoubtedly, win them many new ones.
From the opening guitar riff of Get Up and Go, through the haunting melody of Brave, to the final notes of Our Yard, GLEN CLOSER once again sets out to prove that intelligence and catchy melodies are not mutually exclusive.
With their latest effort, band mates Johnna White (bass and vocals), Joe Rubin (drums and vocals) and Jim Baeszler (guitars and vocals) meet, and exceed the lofty expectations set by their first release. Musically, it is clear that all three cut their teeth working New Jersey''s highly-competitive club scene. The riffs are solid and tight, and Baeszler''s guitar performs sonic feats above the solid foundation set by White and Rubin. But there is so much more.
From lyrics that border on poetic, to unique harmonies not usually associated with solid rock n'' roll, Glen Closer manages to break new ground while sounding somewhat familiar. Accessible? Yes. Safe? Think again.
Simply put, Glen Closer creates music that can be enjoyed on many levels. Each member brings a diverse background of experiences and influences that, when blended together, form a sound that pays homage to the past yet pulls the listener into the future. And with their latest release, the future is looking very promising.

I like it. The harmonic blend of voices is INFECTIOUS! When you think of Glen Closer, think stripped down roots rock with twangy guitars, thumping bass, garage quality drums, and melodies that are almost folky in their fragile simplicity. It''s the kind of worn-in music you can hang onto...know you''ve found something you want to keep.

A THOUGHTFUL collection of pop rock tunes, full of hooks... reflective and often POIGNANT LYRICS with a gentle serenity... While getting free music is a perk of this trade, I''d feel better if I had paid for this one. They deserve it.
