Dr Beans was co-founder of the seminal 90’s band, Hot Broccoli, but following an extensive (and costly) winter tour of the Canadian Northwest Territories (Beans‘ homeland), the band called it quits. Beans stayed behind to raise baby seals on an ice farm, writing the bulk of songs that would appear on his debut release, Slut Monkey.
Initially the songs dealt with heartbreak and drug abuse. Beans was having writer’s block. He later attributed this to the fact that he had never been in love, nor had he ever abused drugs. Instead he wrote a concept album about the plight of the baby seal. The project was financed, in part, by a grant from the NAACP, who misunderstood the project as being about activist Bobby Seals.
Beans protested against the music industry by performing a one-man nude march from Montreal, Quebec to New York City, the music capital of the world. But the trip would be a hazardous one. United States Border officials would not let him enter the country without clothes, and once through, the Canadian officials refused to let him back. Beans was forced to stand at the borderline until an international tribunal could decide the case. Eventually they let him enter the U.S. after a dismayed judge offered his own robes to be worn.
‘His Honor, Dr Beans‘, (as he now called himself) continued his march and was soon attacked and raped by a large female grizzly bear. Despite the rocky start, they soon grew inseparable and she soon bore him three furry bear-people. They were named, Clem, Angie and Squackadamookie. Beans soon grew tired of domestic life and one morning raised his gavel and declared his marriage null avoid and annulled and oh boy was his wife angry.
She roared like a violent penguin and chased him through the woods. He headed south and soon he found himself in New York City’s Greenwich Village. He took the stage one night at Café Wha? and his bear wife came charging in after him. She was tranquilized by police and held for observation. Later, her uncanny ability to read outfielders lead to her being hired as the NY Mets third base coach.
Eventually Beans wrote and recorded the set of songs that would become Slut Monkey, and the world became a better place for all of humanity.
