Mable was created in 2007 by founding members James Notaro (vocals) and James Stahon (guitars). The two have an extensive history of writing and performing together. They have released two independent records under a previous name, and have shared the stage with acts such as The Legendary Wailers, Rich Robinson (The Black Crowes), Chris Hartford, and Mike Ferris (Screaming Cheetah Wheelies).
Mable is a new project for the New Jersey songwriting team. They have an interesting brand of rock combining progressive lyrical patterns and subtle country undertones. Joining in 2008 are guitarist Mike Askin, bassist Gary MacDougall, and drummer Ron DiFrenza. The music of Mable can be agile, stout, dark, or uplifting with a familiar quality that leaves you with an inviting feeling. Mable uses the day to day as inspiration for writing. “I feel that the music we write is identifiable in a non-deliberate way” says Notaro. “Most of the songs we write are of, or inspired by, events in our lives hopefully leaving the cliché out and touching base with real human qualities. I feel that the age of mind blowing rock has peaked and begun to parody itself. I’m much more interested in the story of a song and the images and thoughts it can conjure.”
Mable is currently promoting their debut release Stay at Home Circus. A seven song EP that serves up a diverse group of recordings. Mable is bringing Stay at Home Circus to the tri-state area while continually writing and recording their next effort. As for the name, the band insists it’s up to the listener to make an interpretation.
