Madera Road began recording their debut album in September of 2003 at the Milvia House in the lowlands of Berkeley, California. The songs are a culmination of the band''s lifelong musical influences. Strains of Willie Nelson''s early balladry can be felt in The Scarecrow, while a more traditional folk sound-a la the Carter Family-can be heard in Shamefully Falling In Love. The simple and sincere influence of singer-songwriters like Gillian Welch is present in Stranger Kindness, while a song like Too Late hints at a modern-day Fairport Convention.
