Growing up in the shadows of living legends, superstars and media darlings, Marlon had his legacy handed down to him before he even wanted it. With one of the world’s most famous families,and the world’s most famous uncle and aunt Marlon wanted nothing more than his own identity. Having natural talents as a musician, Marlon could have easily taken the road to riches by conforming to his family’s name and adding his talent to a fortune that was waiting for him. But what does a true artist want, even when his path has been handed to him?
To ignore the preconceived notions that others may have, and to carve out his own path. To find his own identity. Marlon survived on the outskirts of his family’s success by hitting the underground spots, outside of the glamour, searching the scenes and discovering a style all his own. Hip-hop was in his blood from day one. After honing his skills within the producing field, his awakening came while attending a concert featuring the legendary Nasir Jones at the San Diego Sports Arena in San Diego, California. His energy found a loophole and now he had to put his stamp on the industry. His identity. He knew the amount of work involved and he believed that with the right idea and a trustworthy partner that would be committed to the cause, true art would find its way to the forefront and speak for itself.
Patrick W. Dockett (Street Poet)- Writer/Poet/M.C.
Growing up in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Patrick was exposed to writing poetry early in life. With one literary work published at the age of fourteen, Patrick found himself very ambitious and decided to follow his dream. Struggling to get his art off the ground, he moved to California, knowing full well what his calling was, he struck out on his own, doing what it took to help his family keep their heads above water. Performing at various spoken word cafes, Patrick’s dream of supporting his family was beginning to take shape.
After a chance meeting with an aspiring producer, Patrick committed himself to putting his writing skills to use. The two formed a group and started building a small studio from the ground up. After being inspired to write his first poem to music, he came up with the concept of M.D.P. After pitching the idea to Marlon (Chye Beats) Jackson Jr., they decided that the concept of being Modern Day Poets best fitted what they wanted to accomplish. Marlon’s energy as a music producer, writer and Patrick’s ambition as a writer was enough to bind them together for the purpose of putting out a quality product that is worthy of platinum status.
As M.D.P., Patrick and Marlon have been producing and writing music since 2002. The creativity that Marlon possesses as a music producer and the creativity that Patrick possesses as a writer will be a perfect fit for the music scene today. Without a doubt, their desire is felt through the power of their music. They have a work ethic harder than most, often staying in the studio all night, laying down tracks, editing and finalizing their own music, despite working nine-to-fives, attending college and other activities. It would be an honor to work full time and build on a mainstream legacy that they have been maintaining in the underground scene.
