MP3 Naomi Crain - Leaving Ur

With a heart that roams through folk, pop and rock, gentle and heart-wrenching at times, rough and angry at others, strings and choirs here, standard band line-ups there, this album maintains a heavy accent on acoustic guitars.

Details:
Naomi Crain, an emerging indie folk-rock singer/songwriter from Sydney has released her debut album ‘Leaving Ur’.

Naomi studied song writing, music production, performance, play writing and acting at university. After graduating, she roamed the world with a back pack, returning to Australia only to earn more money to travel again.

having finally settled back into a life at home in Sydney Naomi began work on her debut album, Leaving Ur. The album had an intolerably long gestation period, but this allowed for her growth as a recording artist, arranger and producer. Artists featured on Leaving Ur include Richard Anderson, Steve Crain, Pete Kohlhoff, Hilary Williams, Paul Gray, Martyn Hentschel, Nick Nittes, Mandy Fischer, Margo Mowczko, Matt Roberts, Luke Fletcher and Charlotte Jane.

Influenced over many years by the works of Ani Difranco, Indigo Girls, Patti Griffin, Tori Amos, Leonard Cohen, U2 and many more, Naomi''s musical style is ecclectic, covering folk, pop, rock, jazz and gospel.

“This album is 11 different countries of me, in which I’ve stopped and spent time, taking care to listen to the experiences that live in that place, working out what to bring out as the lasting memory, the souvenirs of my time spent there, the scars, the trinkets, the visions of the landscapes.” Naomi Crain

Reviews of Naomi’s live performances:

“Naomi’s lyrics follow the roads taken in her journey; raw, witty, intelligent and real”

“Naomi’s set was both original as well as paying homage to the indigo Girls, Bono and Ani Difranco, with God and the lesbian community thrown in for good measure!”

"A night of thoughtful journeying through love, desire and loss with Naomi and her music to guide and delight us."

“An inspiring, heartfelt, courageous, and touching performance, with a voice, music, and lyrics that speak of life''s journeys in both an intensely personal and universally human way.”

“Naomi reminds me of Rickie Lee Jones (but not the "Chuck E''s in Love" like-stuff) especially in those lovely soaring, sliding vocals plus an occasional hint (depending on the song) of Emmylou Harris.”

“A poignant emotional performance with strong ties to her influences.”

“A compelling experience drawing on the hurts and confusions borne out of the discordant messages of society and church, overlain with rich musical overtones that make the observer feel.”

“Naomi is a born performer, with a commanding stage presence. Her songs are honest and lyrically diverse, revealing a depth of character and life experience. At times, her style is reminiscent of artists such as Sheryl Crow and Jewel. If you like her album, you''ll love her performance!”

“I was personally captivated by [Naomi’s] performance - as was the whole room. Words like "honest", "soulful", "powerful", "vulnerable" come to mind, but "connection" sticks out. Few performers have the ability to really connect with their audience the way [she] does. An experience which is real, songs which are cheeky one minute, then send a shiver down your spine the next.”

“...even the blokes at the bar fell silent ….straight transference, straight up....her voice illuminating, identifying and banishing demons in the same breath. thank you”

“I was struck by the emotive journey in [Naomi’s] set. [She] has quite a gift of expressing [her] feelings when [she] sings … I found myself wondering what had happened, who broke [her] heart, or where or who the pain was attached to (or derived from)...but I was also struck by the sense of opportunity and growth.”

“I appreciated that there was no pretence or bullshit - and just honesty, which is rare. [Her] honesty made it so that you could hear a pin drop in the room…”

“I am deeply impressed…….with what I experienced at [the launch]. I was really taken with [Naomi’s] stage presence, [her] lyrics, [her] passion and gentleness.”

“The little portion of [Naomi] I experienced live was very special – [she] looked, sounded and felt gold.”
