Lynn Grayburn was born in Lexington, Kentucky on November 17, 1986. Soon after she turned a year old, her parents moved to Dallas, Texas. From birth, Lynn''s dad would play guitar and sing to her. Throughout her childhood, she was surrounded by a mix of bluegrass, classic rock, country, and Christian music. Between Dad''s guitar and Mom''s dobro, Lynn developed a natural love of music and harmony. At four years of age, Lynn began taking piano lessons at the local community college. She surprised her teacher by composing her first piano piece when she was seven years old. It didn''t take long for lyrics to start attaching themselves to her compositions and at age eight, Lynn wrote her first song.
Around this time, Lynn joined a local children''s entertainment troupe, TKO Kids. TKO also enabled Lynn to develop her other artistic passion - dance. Lynn began dancing when she was five years old, and is trained in all facets of dance, including ballet, jazz, and hip-hop. Lynn credits TKO Kids for beginning her love of the stage. With the troupe, she performed in several prestigious events including Holidays at the White House in 1996. Lynn left TKO at twelve years of age and began focusing on her songwriting. During this time, she performed solo in church events and weddings around Dallas. She also sang in the junior school choir for a year and played the lead role of Sandy in the school musical, "Grease."
During the spring of 2003, Lynn, at age 16, won a regional fine arts contest for best individual songwriting. Producer George Anderson requested a videotape of Lynn singing and playing. That tape resulted in a mutual agreement for producing a CD consisting of eleven of Lynn''s songs. After a lot of hard work from everyone involved, Lynn''s CD, "Naked," was released on July 9, 2005 at a showcase where she performed with an eleven-piece band, including a string quartet.
Lynn has written over 50 songs, and continues to write more all the time. Her backup band consists of piano, a string quartet, mandolin, fiddle, acoustic bass, acoustic guitar, drums, congas, marimba, and pedal steel. Her music best fits in under the genre of acoustic pop/adult contemporary. Although she has been most frequently compared to Norah Jones and Vanessa Carlton, Lynn only claims influences from past greats such as the Beatles, Bonnie Raitt, Carole King, and the Judds.
Lynn says of the whole experience thus far, "I know that my music is a huge gift from the Lord, and I truly want to share it with the world. It has been incredible to watch God open doors for this CD and bring people together through my songs. I am so glad that I have had the opportunity to work with all of these awesome people - especially George Anderson. I know that I have so much to look forward to in life, and this CD is a celebration of that fact, as well as a reminiscence of the struggles I have faced and overcome. My sincere hope is that my music can touch the hearts of people everywhere and bring them encouragement, strength, and love."
