TEN THOUSAND SORROWS although officially formed in 2007, the members have known and worked with each other on various musical projects in the Reading/Newbury (England, UK) area over the last 10 years.
Bass player Gaz (Martyn Garraway) and singer/guitarist Cleo (Cameron) have graced the music scene in the Reading and Newbury area for a number of years, most notably in the bands School’s Out, Bonedance, Vice Verse and Earth Dies Screaming. School friends and writing partners and predominately the creative force behind the band, they have managed to blend their diverse influences from the alternative psychedelic groove sounds of Janes Addiction; the melodic grunge rock of Alice in Chains; the energetic, catchy choruses and harmonies of Bad Religion through to the ambient tones of Massive Attack. Such diversity has led to the unique and distinct commercial sound of TEN THOUSAND SORROWS which has the potential (and has demonstrated thus far through individual feedback) to traverse genre boundaries and appeal to a wide range of music lovers.
TEN THOUSAND SORROWS offers something for everyone.
Gaz and Cleo have been joined in the live arena and recording process by Kev Murray formerly of The Mean Season, who also working with side project Sonic Overmind and one of the best guitarists within the area (if not the country) whose superior ability in terms of technique and melodic creativity has added a whole new dimension to what was already an outstanding set of songs. Kev, an old friend, had played with Cleo and Gaz in their previous conception Earth Dies Screaming.
Lastly, Owen Martin (Cleo’s brother) an awesome skinsman, whose absolute talent and diversity has seen him play professionally with bands ranging from soul to blues to rock within the London area, has provided the solid base to TEN THOUSAND SORROWS music with his high energy and intricate drum patterns.
