Details:
Radiola is the Andrew Robson Trio’s 3rd CD release and it charts the continuing creative development of this longstanding and highly regarded creative ensemble.

All of the tracks on the album highlight not only the ensembles improvisatory skills but also Andrew’s growth as a composer, not afraid to draw on a vast array of influences.

Radiola also sees Andrew extend his musical plate with the inclusion of descant recorder for the first time. This can be heard on the evocative track “Brindabella”. His composition “Mata Hari” is a slow hypnotic groove based on a traditional dance rhythm from Eastern Europe and the album’s opening track “Big Ben” sees Andrew paying homage to tenor great Bennie Wallace with his take on a down-home blues (with a twist or two).

“I love the openness and freedom of the trio setting”, Andrew says, “my ideal has always been to try to write and play honest music with musicians who feel and play the same way, with this group I can do just that”.

The current line-up featuring Steve Elphick on Bass and Hamish Stuart on drums came together in 1996, and the years of making music together are certainly paying off. Radiola has a focus and clarity of ideas that draws the listener deep into the musical dialogues, then propels them through the changing moods and textures for the duration of the album. The Andrew Robson trio has never sounded better.
