Blue Swing Satellites

In 1996, two musicians, Arnel Cosca and Jeffrey Markle, met in a Blues club in Hollywood, California. A few cocktails later a band was born. Arnel and Jeffrey quickly realized that they share a love for making music. Over the years they have recorded everything from back alley Blues to symphonic Jazz.
Arnel Cosca is the youngest of three siblings. He grew up surrounded by music. Dad was playing Benny Goodman, Glen Miller, Stan Kenton, Oscar Peterson, Dave Brubeck and the Charlie Parker Quintet while Mom was listening to Mozart, Vivaldi, Tchaikovsky and the great Movie Musicals. His Brother added classic Rock to the mix by listening to The Beatles, The Stones, Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple while his Sister taught him an appreciation for Love Songs. At the age of five, Arnel started playing the piano. By the time he was 7, he had joined a local marching band. It wasn’t long before the band director, his mentor, recognized Arnel’s talent and asked him to write his own arrangement of “When The Saints Go Marching In.” As a teenager, he discovered his love for Fusion, Pop Jazz, Funk and R&B. Today, Arnel is living in Berlin, Germany and working as a Composer/Musician of all genres. While in Europe, he is taking advantage of the opportunity to learn the music and instruments of different cultures and ethnicities.
As a youth, Jeffrey Markle was strongly influenced by The Beatles and the great Rock-n-Roll of the 60’s. But, unlike most teenagers of the time, he was also listening to the sounds of Benny Goodman, Woody Herman, and Dave Brubeck. He enjoyed the earthy vocals of the Blues artists Howlin’ Wolf, BB King and Muddy Waters. He snapped his fingers to the great television theme song writers such as Henry Mancini and Nelson Riddle and the smooth, silky vocals of Sinatra, Dean Martin and Tony Bennett. These are the artists that shaped his life and his lyrics. With their influence and his love of performing live, Jeffrey has been allowed to experience an amazing journey. He now makes his home in Los Angeles, where he continues to pursue his passion for music and his acting career. Jeffrey has worked steadily in film and television for the last few years and performs his music live whenever possible.
Our CD, Satellite Sonata, has been a long time in coming. The music has had time to mellow and age like a fine wine. It is the Blues with Big Band and Swing arrangements, a pinch of ‘70s Funk and, of course, some good ol’ Rock-n-Roll. It is a blend, an homage to the great artists that have given us so much pleasure and so much inspiration in the past. Turn it up and enjoy!
