Details:
bows & eros consists of two brothers, John and Matt Eros, and whoever else wishes to back them up at any given time. All songs are originals written & performed by John Eros with the exception of lead vocals performed by Matt on track 4, "Lorelei". Over the years, and under different band names (most notably "Faithful and Discrete Slaves"), bows & eros have played with percussionists Dave Kitts, Jerry Williams, Doug Anderson, Sean Westerfield, and Mike "Mr. C" Correa. Scott Andreassen, Abe Ortiz, and Chip Westerfild have stood in on bass. Smooth Mark Dawson joined in on ryhthm and lead guitar, as well as lead and back vocals. Cellos have been expertly played by Brian Cavin and Dylan Rieck. And Orcas Island’s Bernie Regier has graced a few songs with some rippin’ saxophone.
The album "What’s This Remind You Of?" started out in Bellingham’s own Bayside Studio as a simple 3 song acoustic demo for sending out to places to get gigs. Something that would take a few hours to slap together and need little if any editing. Engineering the recording session would be Chip Westerfield. Chip has a tendency to get all excited over your music and make little suggestions here and there. First they were innocent little things, like a backup vocal here or a bit of lead guitar there. Then three songs weren’t enough; we should do five. Next thing you know, there are eleven songs with a full band including cello and piano. And kudos to Chip for every suggestion. If we had first walked into the studio already planning on an eleven song album, we would have created a completely different monster containing a different set of songs.
John Eros is a prolific songwriter, responsible for well over 90% of the music written, and usually has at least three new songs baking in his head at any given time. "What’s This Remind You Of?" is a small sampling of what was rolling around in John’s head at the time of recording, and a few others that had been written years earlier. Accompanying John, Matt, and Chip during the recording sessions were Mike Correa on his prized Ludwig drum set; Dylan Rieck playing his deep-throated cello; Sean Westerfield on his Pearl drum kit; and Abraham Ortiz stood in on bass guitar for a track. Chip also played bass, and some keyboard. John played lead/rhythm guitar, piano, bass guitar and sang. Matt played rhythm/lead guitar and sang. Stephanie Carter & Lori Geleynse sang backing vocals on "Kilimanjaro". Laughs & inspiration were provided by our childhood dentist on the song, "Dr. Wilkins".
Currently, John and Matt are working on a more trimmed down, acoustic album. Joining the effort is John''s son Holland, who is proving himself to be as prolific and talented a lyricsmith as his father.
Photographs for the cover of "What''s This remind You Of?" were taken by photographer/videographer LeRoy Schutte, creator of the documentary "Captain Ozone". The photos were then manipulated by Matt Eros, who is a graphic artist and designer. Insert photos and back cover art, as well as jewel case design were also rendered by Matt.
All profits from this CD will be put into the production of the next CD. So, if you like what you hear, please buy several copies (at 30% off) and give them to your friends, and encourage them to do the same, so we can continue to crank out more tunes. At last count, John alone has written well over 300 songs, so we have a lot of recording to catch up on. And as is true with most starving, self-produced artists, we need money, and lots of it. So be a good consumer, and buy "What''s This Remind You Of?" for yourself, and for your significant other, and your significant other''s mother, and so on.
