Cate Shaw''s singing talent masters a fresh combination of Latin style, a serving of contemporary, a pinch of blues, and some jazz numbers for good measure.
Cate has previously recorded for ABC in Sydney, doing radio work with Radio National and ABC FM radio, her voice featuring in various radio serials. She worked with Armstrong''s Studios and was a session singer, performing with artists of the caliber of Rick Springfield and Robbie Porter.
Cate has been singing all her life, her talent developed early as one half of a duo with her brother, Thomas Fitzgerald. At sixteen she was offered a part in the musical ‘Hair’ with Marcia Hines. Life commitments put Cate’s singing career on hold until a sudden realization that she needed music back in her life, and in keeping with her motto ''Wake up! Don''t take your dreams to your grave'', she woke up.
Soon after Cate was introduced to music teacher Ingrid James who helped her “discover her voice again” and with the support of local musical director Stewart Turner, Cate''s band Latin Blue was formed. Latin Blue''s debut CD was recorded with Garry Smith of Pinkhouse Productions & in December 2005, they played their first performance at Sofi´s Lobby lounge at the Sofitel Hotel, a return performance soon followed the successful launch.
Cate has since performed both solo & with Latin Blue at venues throughout Brisbane, including The Press Club, The Brisbane Sebel, The Bank (formerly Belushi''s), with Ian Maurice at The Samford Jazz Festival and is available for bookings for corporate and private functions. The successful combination that began Cate''s career has reunited in 2008, with Thomas Fitzgerald, now a professional composer and musician producing Cate''s recent recording of one of his compositions the Chika Cha Cha.
