Details:
Charles S. McVey has been performing in one form or another all his life. His first experiences in music were with his grandfather who had McVey singing solos in Salina''s First Baptist Church at the age of 3. After spending a year at FHSU, McVey started performing acoustic sets in a local coffee shop. Through this exposure, McVey hooked up with 3 other musicians in the Hays area and formed Lemming. The band played the KS music scene for 2 years before disbanding in May of 1998. Since then McVey has been working on solo material in various home studios. In October of 1999, "Someplace Better Than This" was independently released on McVey''s impure records. A few appearances at local haunts followed in support of the record. He moved to Topeka, KS shortly after "Someplace" was completed. Early the next year, five tracks left over from the "Somplace" sessions were compiled for "Lackluster." McVey and former spouse, Nathan Treolo, started working together in the group Apathy Shine. They released their first record, "The Analog Emotion" in the summer of 2001. They played a few gigs in Kansas that summer including Topeka''s Pride Festival. The "Communication ep" was recorded in the fall of 2001. The project was focused on a more compassionate and human sound than the two previous McVey releases. It was followed a few months later by the "Boys ep". In the spring of 2003, McVey combined his two previous efforts ("communication ep" and "boys ep") with new tracks to create the full-length title "swallow" McVey left Topeka in April of 2003 to attend The Conservatory of Recording Arts and Sciences in Tempe, AZ. He studied Audio Engineering with some of the worlds top audio professionals. At school McVey wrote and recorded "Transition ep," a four song collection of atmospheric and dismal tracks based on minimalist chord structures and layered melodies. His new release "Modern Living" is a collection of 6 love songs with themes ranging from internet obsession to prison-sex. The record was recorded and produced by McVey at Alibi 6 Recording in Lawrence, KS.
