A great CD of folk-ed up blues, gutsy, quirky and a musician with a political voice, an eclectic mix of blues, cajun, reggae and jazz.

"Retracing", was recorded at Private Ear studio in Key West Florida, in the fall of 1998. It features an eclectic mix of styles. Blues fans will enjoy the back porch feel of "Back Road", a sensual story of secret love. Her cool jazzy side is evident in "Birds Bop". Her activist side is also showcased in songs "Witness", "Dedicated", "Get Back To Sanity", and "Jungle", a rhythmic tale of lost Rain Forests.

Cathy Grier has been called folk-ed up blues, gutsy, and a musician with a voice. Her performances are heartfelt, showcasing her captivating guitar style and rich powerful voice. As a songwriter who is sometimes political, sometimes analytical, she echoes Dylan and Mitchell with a touch of Raitt on the side.

Cathy participates in New York City''s MTA program, "Music Under New York." Selected in 2002 as one of New York''s finest subway performers, she has performed in Avery Fisher Hall and was featured on CNN, CBS Sunday Morning and NBC''s Today Show. Cathy has performed throughout New York City including St. Paul''s Church, to help heal the spirit and heart of a traumatized city. Her solo performances underground reveal a more rootsy approach to her music which has attracted the attention of not only commuters, but the eye of many indie-documentary film makers.

Her recent CD Sampler entitled, "What Fools Do", was recorded in New York City in May 2002. A solo recording of vocal and guitar which features more bluesy songs and expresses a more simplistic look at Cathy''s life and music. As a songwriter, Cathy co-wrote songs on Sony Music artist Anggun''s CD entitled "Chrysalis." Another new artist, Maryanna Matisse, includes Grier penned songs, and is featured on the United Airlines pop 40 channel. Cathy''s song Protecting My Heart, can be heard in the Documentary film "Girl Next Door, was included in the original NOMAD digital recorder and was a https://www.tradebit.com nominee.

Since releasing "Retracing" , Cathy Grier has opened up for Joan Armatrading, James Cotton and Dave Mason. She travelled to France to open up for Nilda Fernandez, (an artist she produced in 1996 after adapting his songs to English).

A compilation CD entitled "Sounds For The Soul" including Bruce Springsteen, and Janis Ian to name a few, has Grier''s song "Fallen Friends," about loss in the age of AIDS. Other compilations with Cathy Grier songs are, Crossroads Magazine and PoetMan records Acoustic Sampler #8.

In October ‘99, Cathy joined the Kensington Welfare Rights Union sponsored March of the Americas to end poverty. She also travelled to London to perform. In December, she was a featured artist at The Songwriter Hall of Fame New York showcase.

Currently living in New York City, Cathy Grier is involved in handling every aspect of her career. Her own label Shane Music, is based in Key West Florida where she has been performing and recording since 1984.

Cathy Grier, a Connecticut native, formed her first independent record label in 1980 with partner Lenore Troia. Their 8 year association punctuated with national tours and albums, was highlighted by an MTV basement tape win in 1986. After venturing out on her own in 1990, she opened up for Laura Nyro and recorded "New York Sessions", a self produced album. Cathy then spent six years in Paris and London writing and performing for many artists, including Carrere artist Indra, who''s 1991 single "Misery" hit number one on the French dance charts and New Age guitarist Pierre Bensusan. In Paris, she recorded another self-produced CD entitled "Solo" in 1993. London''s "Time Out" magazine described her as, "Funkily melodic in a mature and assured style."

Cathy Grier has taken her music to many countries and believes music is a powerful tool that crosses boundaries of ignorance and hate.
