BIRTH

Tariq Rahman was born on April 10, 1983 to two struggling parents in Portland, Oregon. His mother was still attending school and his father had been recently fired and blacklisted from his job with the US government. The tensions eventually split the parents up and Tariq''s mother took him to Arizona where she had been offered a stable job. At a very young age, Tariq began to embrace the darker side of America''s working class neighborhoods. In an environment where nobody is successful and all opportunities to enter America''s mainstream seem to be closed off, one''s reputation determines who they are and how well they are respected. Unfortunately, like many great leaders before him, Tariq would waste many of his younger years fighting the wrong battles and hurting the wrong people.

DEVELOPMENT

Hip-hop started to explode in Tariq''s neighborhood around 1994, and he was instantly drawn to it. Hip-hop was the rebel music of his generation; DJ''s taking break beats from old vinyl records, B-Boys integrating Afro-Brazilian capoeira with traditional and modern American dance, and guerilla graffiti artists painting their masterpieces on the dull surfaces of industrial development. But what was most inspiring to Tariq was the MC, who spoke so passionately and without boundaries, forcing the world around him to listen. The MC''s only instrument is the voice he is born with; he uses his own energy and unique style to project himself to the crowd and connect with masses of people. Tariq felt that he had something to offer to the hip-hop world, and music almost instantaneously became his passion. He devoted every spare moment to developing his craft, and several years of struggle and dedication later he would be recognized as one of the premier MC''s on the local underground scene.

CREATION

At the time, acts like Wu-Tang Clan, Canibus and Nas dominated the hip-hop scene, so most of Tariq''s music reflected a similar sound. But in 1998, a friend introduced him to a song that had been released several years before, ''Nature of the Threat'' by Ras Kass. ''Nature of the Threat'' was an extensive analysis of western imperialism that exposed the history of European/American imposed oppression from the early beginnings of human civilization to the present. As a child, Tariq had been exposed to revolutionary politics early on due to his family''s history with radical political organization, as well as the influence of artists like KRS-One and Public Enemy. But he was struck by how ''Nature of the Threat'' presented such complex and complicated ideas in an incredibly clear and powerful way. The song not only pushed Tariq to educate himself further, but also to convey what he had learned to others through hip-hop music. The freestyles, punchlines and battles of his past now seemed trivial in comparison with what hip-hop could potentially be. Tariq disappeared from the local scene and began to focus heavily on writing. He took time perfecting his technique, and spent weeks, even months writing songs. Slowly he learned to use his words in ways that appealed to people''s hearts, and not just their ears.

COMPLETION

In 2001, geopolitics began a rapid spiral into chaos. The 9/11 attacks created an environment that supported the military industrial complex and oppressed the civil rights of innocent people worldwide. The Bush administration had begun an intense campaign of propaganda and extremist neoconservative policies which included the forcing of the Patriot Act through Congress, the launching of an excessively aggressive bombing campaign of Afghanistan, an attempted a coup in Venezuela to overthrow democratically elected President Hugo Chavez, and the illegal invasion of the sovereign nation of Iraq against the will of the international community. And in 2005, the march of the radical right-wing is only intensifying. There is no better time for GRIME to be released to the world. GRIME (Got Revolution In My Eyes) was born in an era which history will most likely remember as the beginning of the end. He is fueled by the frustration and anger of a growing army behind him. GRIME''s debut album, Let Freedom Ring With a Buckshot is filled with intensity, passion and most importantly brutal honesty; it is undoubtedly one of the most important hip-hop albums of 2005.

EVOLUTION

But Let Freedom Ring With a Buckshot was only the beginning of something much greater to come. GRIME has used guerilla marketing from the back of his trunk to the internet to release his music to thousands of people already. 4000 physical copies of Let Freedom Ring With a Buckishot have been distributed and over 1000 have been downloaded. GRIME, accompanied by DJ Konradio, constantly performs in and out of state and has been hailed by many as one of the local scene''s top live acts. The raw passion and energy of GRIME''s live show has earned him profound respect in underground hip-hop by artists and listeners alike. Recently, GRIME has established https://www.tradebit.com, developed a merchandise department that includes GRIME t-shirts, stickers and of course the Let Freedom Ring With a Buckshot CD, organized a large and devoted online promotional team and local street team, and has opened for some of hip-hop''s most established national acts. A second album, A People''s History is in development and is scheduled to be released by early 2006. Be prepared, GRIME is coming and he''s bringing the revolution with him.
