Gerard Sundberg’s compelling baritone voice is celebrated internationally for its beauty and clarity. He has distinguished himself as a concert artist with his mastery of bass/baritone repertoire. His extensive concert appearances throughout the U.S., Europe and recently New Zealand include 10 years of collaboration with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra in Handel’s Messiah and other works conducted by Robert Shaw and Norman Mackenzie, J. S. Bach’s Mass in B Minor and St. Matthew Passion conducted by Helmuth Rilling, and Bach’s St. John Passion conducted by John Nelson at Notre Dame de Paris. He has performed several oratorios and masses in collaboration with the West Suburban Choral Union (IL) and Wheaton Conservatory ensembles.

Dr. Sundberg is a graduate of Bethel College (St. Paul, MN), and holds both Master of Fine Arts and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees in vocal performance from the University of Minnesota where he studied voice with Clifton Ware and Roy Schuessler. He is presently Professor of Voice at Wheaton Conservatory of Music (Wheaton, IL), where he teaches studio voice and vocal pedagogy. Dr. Sundberg is an active church musician, and vocal and choral clinician. Previous recordings include the first collaboration with Edwin Childs entitled, “Songs for the Journey” containing arrangements by Childs of 16 hymns and gospel songs. Also, “Singer on a Journey”, includes four sacred song cycles by Brahms, Beethoven, Vaughan-Williams and Carlisle Floyd, pianist: Daniel Paul Horn.

EDWIN T. CHILDS

Ed Childs is a native of New Hampshire. He studied composition with Jack Goode at Wheaton College, IL (BM), and with Wayne Barlow and Samuel Adler at the Eastman School of Music (PhD). He has taught music theory and composition at Philadelphia College of Bible, Biola University (CA), and currently teaches at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. He is an arranger and composer of sacred and secular choral, vocal, keyboard and instrumental works. His music is published by various publishers and he is a member of ASCAP.
