Though what steers her apart from other singer songwriters is the diversity of her songs and her quirky style. Pretty guitar melodies blend with rocking guitar riffs as a medium for Kate to tell tales of love and life, the world and her place in it, creating a fusion of folk, pop and rock that keep listeners captivated.
Kate’s intimate live performances feel pure and sincere as she shares stories and laughs, interacting with the audience like old friends at the local pub. Growing up in the Sydney beachside suburb of Clovelly, Kate spent most of her youth by the water, playing in the surf, dodging sea urchins and getting sun burnt. It was at the age of 18 that she began playing guitar and writing songs and what simply began as a favourite hobby grew into something more as she set off playing small gigs at local pubs in Surry Hills, Newtown and at the UNSW Roundhouse.
In July of 2006 Kate travelled to North America and with her guitar in tow, found herself playing gigs in New York City, San Francisco, Montreal and Vancouver. Finding a home in Vancouver, Kate settled into the indie music scene performing regularly at local venues and began recording her debut album ‘Precious Spaces’ at The Hive studios, where she was joined by Vancouver based indie pop band Bella on the recording.
2007 saw Kate playing at the Ladyfest music and arts festival in Vancouver, a duo album release party alongside Vancouver’s up and coming bands The Wintermitts and Greenbelt Collective, and a welcome back show at The Hopetoun in Sydney.
2008 is set to be a big year! Kate has played to large crowds at outdoor festivals Fair Day and International Women’s Day, supported the magical Clare Bowditch and is set to perform more Sydney shows to let everyone know she used to be folk
