Details:
"Outlaw Dervish" is the second CD from Didjerdiuist/Poet Travis Wernet and Producer/Musician Ben Leinbach. Travis has been playing didjeridu for eleven years and has performed in a variety of bands, currently fronting "Pele''s Tears". He has also been performing his own original Spoken Word Poetry as part of his Fire-Dancing act, "Darkshine" and performed with a full band in the popular and highly coveted musical venue, Grace Cathedral, in April 2007, among other festival events in San Francisco. Ben is a long-time Producer, Percussionist and Multi-Instrumentalist who has worked extensively with Jai Uttal both on studio recordings and in Live settings as a Drummer. He won the "New Age Reporter Lifestyle Award" for his solo offering, "the Spirit of Yoga" and has garnered extensive and highly regarded credits working with various musicians in the Sacred Music genre.

On this disc the team decided to go for a decidedly different flavor which started to emerge during the "Lanterns of Midnight" sessions. Travis and Ben have expressed in this new offering a sparkling, groove-oriented trek into Trip Hop, Down Tempo and World Beat territory. The duo draw upon and express some of their favorite musical backgrounds and training to serve up a dish of earthy yet spacey, gritty, celebratory and sensuous tunes. Several personalities come through these songs and overall there is a wonderfully playful yet reflective character present on the album.

This CD is a delight for several reasons, including that it ranges into various elements while keeping to a solid center of smooth gravity. Some definite cross-over is happening with at least a few of the songs , including "We Need Each Other" ( a Tom Waits/Leonard Cohen-like sing-song ''swing'' track embedded in a World-Fusion atmosphere) and "No Illusions" ( which blends elements of Tribal Dance Music and features a Sanskrit Mantra Chant amidst a Rock-n-Roll flare). On "Never Always" Travis dives into a laid-back Hip Hop vocal to deliver a philosophical rant that is , nonetheless , couched in the ''nuts and bolts'' feel of everyday life. A strong mix of instrumentals and flat-out groove tracks allow the listener to enter a chilled domain where everything from a haunting female vocal to a driving male throat-singer provide the imaginal back-drop for a highly imaginative and satisfying listening experience. The didjeridu is played here as a definite, strong accompaniment and can also be heard taking the lead. There is a ground-breaking feel to the way the instrument is being featured on this recording , and recalls other artists like Yothu Yindi (in the fusion of World-Rock layers), Ganga Giri (in the elements of Broken-Beats and Dub) and Didjworks (in the Groove and Down Tempo veins).

Upon completion of the recording and mastering process (in February 2008), Travis printed up 40 copies as an ''Australian Special Edition''. He traveled to ''the Land Down Under'' to promote the tunes and sell CDs as well as to busk on the streets of Australia from Sydney to Darwin and study in Arnhem Land with the originators of the didjeridu (or as they call it ''yidaki'') and returned after a five week journey to report that every copy had sold ! He also happily reports that "Outlaw Dervish" appealed to a bevy of excited new fans, including listeners from Australia, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland, England, Canada and France.
