Regis Jr. likes to play music. He''s played virtually every kind of venue you could name, sometimes literally fighting for the stage.
"Electric bands don''t always respect a guy with an acoustic guitar,"the cosmic crooner explains. "Once at the Whiskey(a-go-go)this band from Iowa tried taking the stage while I tuned my guitar. I rolled up my sleeves and told them they''d have to drag me off. I guess I looked just crazy enough to hold them off for forty minutes or so. It must be the Irish in me."
"And how did the night go," I ask.
"Being an acoustic performer who often plays rock venues, I take it as a personal challenge to reduce places like that to silence. That night was pretty successful. Even though some drunk strippers over by the giant Jim Morrison mural refused to get the picture, everyone else really got into it. I brought my Brazilian wife up for the encore - a Bossa Nova number called Crazy Creature, which I wrote specifically for her to sing."
"You wrote a Bossa Nova for your wife," I ask.
"Yeah," he responds simply. When pressed he adds, "I can pretty much write any kind of song except Rap."
With a mind for composition, a fan might think it reasonable to ask why Regis Jr. sticks with sparse acoustic arrangements.
"Well, acoustic music is beautiful. And," he grins, sheepishly, "you get to keep all the money when you don''t have any accompaniment. But I used to make a lot of electric recordings - stinky sneaker rock I call it, because they''re the kind of songs performed best in torn jeans, t-shirts, and sweat soaked footwear. I''ve actually started a record label called Stinky Sneaker Rok, and I plan on releasing a lot of those recordings through it. So stay tuned."
