Details:
"Anthem to the Stars: The Piano Music of Terry Winter Owens" was premiered at the Justice Planetarium within the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center complex, Hutchinson, KS, from Feb. 7-10, 2008. The concert, comprised of 6 piano pieces inspired by astronomy, astrophysics and the poetry of Rainier Maria Rilke, also functioned as Scott Mayfield''s world premiere as a concert artist. Having died before the event could be set in stone and performed, the concert was also a tribute to Ms. Owens and her visionoary composition style.
Although most of these pieces have accompanying narration, written by Owens and narrated live by her daughter, Maggie Owens, this CD was recorded live by Radio Kansas, an NPR affiliate; thus, the spoken narratives were omitted due to NPR broadcast criteria. "Spectral Glow" is the only song to feature narration, as it is an integral component of the work.
