Souljazz of Fortune is a new exciting band with proven veteran musicians. The band was established in 2008 by Alex Gonzalez and BenJamin Menancio. Although the band was established just recently the core members of the group have been playing together since 2002. Based in Temecula / Murrieta in beautiful Southern California, members are Alex Gonzalez on drums and vocals, BenJamin on saxophones and vocals, Johnny Lopez on guitars, Max Zape and Rich Hale on keyboards, Nelson Guzman on percussions, and Vincent Cabrera on bass guitar. The bands motto is “Music and Friendship is essential to the Soul”. The Souljazz of Fortune sound is a hybrid of Soul, Jazz, R&B, Latin, Dance, Rock and last but not least…..Funk.
The band for years have played in various venues from jazz festivals to private parties playing all genres and styles playing cover tunes. Eager to record originals, with a burning desire to compete in the music industry, and mainly driven to succeed. The band began working there own original recording project that reflects there style and personality.
The bands debut CD album features uplifting feel good grooves, mixing the music with positive vocal love messages, catchy melodic instrumental lines supported by smooth, jazzy, funky horn lines. They reflected back to their roots growing up influenced by the sounds of their times, their lives surrounded by great music that has influenced their style and creativity. Their current recording project reflects just that, their philosophy through their music. The album titled “Soulset” was produced by Alex Gonzalez and BenJamin Menancio of
ALBEN Productions.
The album will capture your listening pleasure the moment you play the first track, you will meet the flight crew of “Flight 7007” where you will take a sonic journey through the sounds of a smooth melodic, pulsating soprano and alto saxophones together with a beautiful romantic acoustic lead and rhythm guitars played by Johnny Lopez.
The song is followed by “Always On My Mind” which captures subtle harmonic vocals together with a classic, sensual melody, and a riveting soprano sax solo. The album will take you to another place on the third song with “Mr. Smooth”, an urban smooth jazz experience where you will be captured and mesmerized by the bass guitar playing of Vince Cabrera and Mr. Smooth BenJamin on the Alto Sax. The music will take you to a cool, head bopping groove, intimate, romantic, silky, and smooth.
The album then goes into a “Festival” where the band celebrates a festival with you. This song could surely be the anthem for all festivals. Nelson Guzman heads up the rhythm section laying down the perfect groove and feel with his congas. It then goes into a uplifting dance party tune led by the dynamic vocals of Alex Gonzalez backed up by some funky horn lines on “Good Lovin” followed by the band partying it up on “Retro Funk”.
The band then shows you how they battle it out on “Fight The Devil”. The band continues to demontrate there versatility fusing R&B, Soul, Jazz, and Funk. The album then sends a deep passionate love message to you into “Winds Of My Soul” grooving to a smooth jazz melodic and rhythmic flavor you definitely want to experience. Alex sings on this hard hitting tune while Johnny kicks it up on his guitar on “Guitarist”. The next track demontrates the power and passion of the band in this smooth jazz tune “Pangea”.
