This cd marks the culmination of a 20 year dream of mine---to record a vocal jazz cd! Sometimes dreams have to be bought, and so, after saving for a very long time and borrowing against my retirement account, (just a little!) I have finally finished this long sought after project.
I am 44 years of age and have discovered that it is really never too late. I’ve been a singer most of my life, but stage fright has kept me a bit under wraps. I started playing guitar at age 12 and discovered my voice at that time. Ironically, I’ve never been in a choir, instead taking up various musical instruments.
In singing along with favorite artists, I’ve always felt that me voice is best suited to jazz, though I enjoy singing most types of music except classical and I’m pretty sure I would not enjoy hip-hop, though I’ve never given it a try!
People have asked me if I’m going to start gigging now, and I tell them probably not. I really don’t like all the planning that goes into that part of the business. If someone said “here’s your band and here’s your stage…go sing on it”, I would happily hop up there. But as my frustrating feelings producing this cd myself will attest, I don’t want to organize and plan, I just want to sing!
For now I remain a humble US mail carrier of 19 years by day, and an accidental singer sitting in on the occasional open mic by night. So until someone takes me by the hand and leads the way, this will have to be good enough!
