MP3 Tim Angsten - Driven To Drive

It''s a one night stand with Bennies Popped. A blinding sunrise after a 3AM drunk. It''s a car ride home where the mind won''t stop. Holding out for the fairy tale ending brand of acoustic pop/rock.

Details:
In 2008 Tim released his debut album entitled, "Driven To Drive" and has captured the hearts of audiences throughout the Midwest ever since. The album''s overall feel was derived from the third track which Tim says was written with the thoughts of taking time to slow down and appreciate all the things we often take for granted. Tim sees music as a sketch book. “Life comes at us fast and we learn to find ways to turn experiences into concrete memories. For me that way is through song writing.”

Tim Angsten began his music career (1995) at the age of eight. Like so many children Tim was forced by his parents to take piano lessons. As a blue eyed, bowl-cut, energetic child, (one whom by today''s standards would probably be diagnosed with ADD) Tim had no patience for the typical music piano lessons had to offer. It wasn''t until Tim saw the movie That Thing You Do (Tom Hanks) at the age of eleven (1998) that he found his true passion for the art of music. Star struck by what he saw, Tim ran downstairs after watching the movie and set up pillows in the form of a drum set. Using two kitchen utensils he banged away on his mother''s helpless linen while singing the catchy tune to “That Thing You Do”.

After weeks of begging, Tim''s father finally agreed to buy him a beginner electronic drum set which was soon replaced by a full blown Pearl acoustic kit. His father also recommended that Tim listen to classic albums by Buddy Holly and the Crickets, The Beach Boys and Jerry Lee Lewis. With these records Tim learned to appreciate artists of prior generations and was influenced by much of what they created. As time passed Tim began to dabble in guitar, piano and bass along with writing his own material.

In 1999, after talking his father into dusting off his old Fender Stratocaster, Tim formed a family band with dad on guitar and little brother (age 7) on bass. The trio named themselves American Pie after the plane that Buddy Holly was killed in. Their first concert was at Tim''s seventh grade school music performance. As the three of them played “Surfin USA” both parents and grandparents of the audience were awestruck. The place went crazy after the performance and of course Tim''s mom was very proud of them! The group played many shows up until they disbanded in 2001.

In 2002 Tim formed the group Green Flash Society. The High School trio achieved a fair amount of success in a short four year span. Releasing four albums and playing many local Wisconsin venues. In the fall of 2003 Tim and his group won the Cascio Music local music showcase. In 2005, as a result of winning the Brass Bell Battle of the Bands in Glendale, they played the Harley Stage at Summerfest.

From 2006 to 2007 Tim formed the more mature pop/rock sound of Hello Hello. Enter drummer Steve Vorass, Tim''s musical knowledge was taken to a whole new level. The group released a six song EP along with their debut album “Tomorrow''s Forecast”. Hello Hello received air play on radio stations such Rock 102.1 and college stations around Wisconsin.

In mid 2007 Tim was fortunate enough to meet a very talented singer/songwriter by the name of Jon Troast. Tim was given the opportunity to play bass guitar along with drummer Steve Vorass and lead guitarist Steamboat Billy. Through playing with Jon, Tim learned much about the creativity that could be applied to a persons lyrics. Many nuances in Tim''s music career were obtained from playing with Jon Troast. Towards the end of 2007 the Jon Troast Band opened for the group America at the Young Auditorium at Whitewater College.

Tim''s love for music has grown rapidly. From smoky bar rooms (pre-smoking ban era) to performances in nursing homes, performing in a Milwaukee Gospel choir band, Summerfest performances and opening for bands such as America, Tim has seen a lot for only twenty-one years of age.

“My passion for music is endless and with every year that passes I learn more and more about the industry and myself. Every step backwards results in two steps forward and I have slowly found that it is both the good and bad that make life so memorable.”
