Formed in 2005, The Tripps, then a three-piece, scrounged its'' way through the Virginia music scene by bringing to the table a different kind of blues. Though their fresh songwriting and New Orleans-esque grooves were a breath of fresh air for the guys, they strove to secure a foothold deeper than the sounds that rooted them.
2006 brought changes to the makeup of the band. After a year of traveling, performing, and a brief hiatus, they entered the studio to record what would be their debut e.p. entitled "Branch Out". After finishing the project with producer Tim Gault, singer/songwriter Sam Barrett moved to Los Angeles, CA for a brief stint in the entertainment capital of the world.
Gaining much experience and taking heed to the personal advice from singer/songwriter Ernie Halter, Sam returned to Virginia in July of ''06. The Tripps released "Branch Out" on November 19th to rave reviews, earning them a nomination for "Best Pop Album of the Year" by Portfolio Magazine. The record release saw the beginning of the newest member, bassist Cameron King, as well as engineer Brandon Franze, to bring the band''s sound to where it is today.
Now in 2008, the e.p. continues to sell greatly as the band released its'' first full-length album entitled "A Sidereal Day". The Tripps entered the studio again with producer Tim Gault of Double-O Records to finish the project for its'' February 1st debut. Credits on the album also include Ryan Berry of Foxtrot Rio, featuring his guitar work on several of the tracks.
This newly refurbished quartet is making waves in Hampton Roads and abroad with the eclectic mix of a free form jazz mentality, the soulful longing of a blues troupe and the live edge of an epic jam band. David Cuffee III, Greg Meekins, Sam Barrett, and Cameron King are the Tripps.
