Armed with a style sharpened by years of performing at hotels,pubs,and clubs, Martin Zamigano reaches the top of his form with his debut album ''KANMANI" literally meaning ''apple of the eye'' in Tamil. A natural born performer with his unique guitar-work and a powerful yet melodious voice makes KANMANI sizzle.
A gifted and visionary artiste, Martin grew up listening to the great artistes of the 60''s and 70''s. Ever since a young boy he has always been drawn to the powerful sounds of soul, gospel and the high energy of rhythm & blues.
The singer-guitarist may have been based in Hong Kong for 14 years but he has not forgotten his Malaysian roots. His affection for fusion music comes through in his debut album KANMANI which combines contemporary music genres with a combination of Asian sounds featuring talented Malaysian musicians.
The 10 track album combines potent roots music of east and west with mystical sounds of Asian ethnic instruments like the sitar, seruling(flute), ghatam, gambus, darabuka, tabla, dholak. Hence, Kanmani could be classed as world music, blues or somewhere in between.
Last year, the title track Kanmani hit the airwaves and secured a top 10 spot on THR Raaga''s Malaysian top 10, a popular radio chart show. KANMANI also won the ''Best Local Indian Album'' award at the prestigious Malaysian Music Industry Awards (AIM 15) this year.
