* Try to attract a constant stream of new visitors, and achieve a sale rate of 1 to 2.

* Try to pull more money out of people who already visit your site.

Both methods can work-and new traffic is always a good thing-but it's important that you don't neglect your existing visitors. Ignoring the people who already visit your site is like turning down free money.

What's the best way to get more money out of people who already visit your site? One of the easiest is to create an autoresponder series of emails for subscribers. If you've had no success with these in the past, or would simply like some tips on making them work for you more effectively, here are three ideas you can use.

First of all, it's important to reach your customers on a personal level. Doing so helps build a relationship between you and your customers, and means they're more likely to buy from you. Try to refrain from blasting your subscribers with sales messages from the beginning of the email series-instead, use the first email primarily to explain who you are, and what you plan to offer with your emails. There's no harm in adding a sales message to that first email, but don't make it the focus.

Second, don't neglect the "thank you" page which you present to your subscribers after they have signed up for your emails. If you were selling a product on your squeeze page, for example, you can use the thank you page to resell the product. You can even try to upsell, since by signing up for emails the customer has indicated an interest in your products.

Third and finally, don't inundate your subscribers with a flood of emails. You might feel tempted to send daily messages in the hopes of attracting more interest and more sales, but in fact, this is one sure way to turn potential customers off. A weekly message is fine, but sending out emails too frequently is actually a good way to overwhelm subscribers and induce them to opt out of your list.
