The group flaming36 are based in Greenwich, UK, a region of London with a lot of naval heritage. We are a little late releasing this, but we hope it at least finds its way aboard a few modern submarines, where the parties are probably better.
We write and record in various styles, so it was difficult to decide on a coherent musical theme for our debut album. We decided to keep ourselves to a straight four-on-the-floor diet with the notable exception of the final track. We have also kept vocals to a minimum.
Despite being an instrumental album, most tunes have an easily identifiable chorus or anthem of some kind. Most of the tunes are inspired by disco and techno, although there is one track that could pass for elevator music, and another with slight Latin influences named after a u-boat that sank near Cuba.
The tunes range from minimalist to quite busy. In writing this album we have come to the conclusion that the optimal amount of variation in a tune depends on the state of mind of the listener, and the amount of attention being focused on it. For example, music sounds faster in the evening than in the morning. We prefer the more minimalist tunes for late evening listening or as background music, and the busier tunes for more focused periods. Having listened to all the songs on this album many times, each tune has at some stage been our favourite tune on the album.
