Details:
In her debut album, FALLING OUT OF TIME, Sara Ford sings to the heart, her melodies and dynamics weaving with her words a tapestry of powerful images and insight. She writes: “Like my fiction and poetry, my lyrics and music seem to write themselves. They come from a deep place, and while personal, I hope that they speak to the universal as well.”

Sara Ford is a singer-songwriter based in Bridgehampton, New York. Born in 1950, she grew up with the music of Joni Mitchell, Judy Collins, Joan Baez, Peter, Paul and Mary, Bob Dylan, Carly Simon, Carole King, Donovan, to name a few. From the age of 12, she spent her summers on a ranch in Wyoming, and at least once a week could be heard leading the campfire sings with her renditions of songs from these artists. From an early age, singing was a passion. She studied piano, but hated recitals, so stopped after six years. At Smith College, she majored in voice, but rebelled against the operatic training, much preferring folk. She moved into New York City, hoping to launch a career, and wrote some songs, performed a little; but it wasn’t her time back then. Over thirty plus years, she’s lived in Germany, New Hampshire, Wyoming, New York City, Massachusetts, Vermont, Seattle, and Bridgehampton. She became a teacher, wrote 5 novels (unpublished), poetry (some published), a screenplay (Boundaries, won a prize at the Moondance International Film Festival), did some freelance editing, became an educational consultant and trained teachers to teach kids how to read, and then finally knew it was time to let the music pour on out.

In November 2006, Sara’s son Sam, then 26, suggested that they sing together. She’d gotten him started on guitar, and he took off with it, writing his own songs and finding music far more meaningful than the acting career he thought he’d have. Once they were singing, he suggested she start writing songs again, and that was the true beginning of this journey. Starting in spring of 2007, Sara worked with Jonathan Cunard to make the demos for the album. In September he introduced her to Alex Sterling, and they worked together as her engineers and all-around music gurus. The album grew organically, suggestions for trumpet here, strings there, bass here, electric guitar there. Sara, Jon and Alex worked on the arrangements together, then invited musicians to join in. What was most meaningful for Sara was that these two young men, a generation away from her, could get the soul of her music and bring it out.

While the influences are clear – people comparing her to Carly Simon, Joan Baez, Carole King, Joni Mitchell, Sarah McLachlan, Laura Nero, even Joan Armatrading -- her voice is uniquely her own. After her debut concert, https://www.tradebit.com wrote, “Sara’s voice is unlike anything we’ve heard live before and it will touch your heart just as much as the words to her songs will.”
