12 MP3 Songs
POP: California Pop, FOLK: Folk Pop

Details:
Annie Hawkins performs her own brand of folk music with unflinching honesty, combining an aggressive style with her quietly powerful urgent voice. The catchy rhythms of her songs are punctuated by flashes of irony, insight and passion. Annie''s own complexity of vision is mirrored in her storyteller''s lyrics and jazz-influenced harmonies.

She has performed on the coffeehouse circuit, college stages, and intimate club settings in the West, where the live venues reinforced her rapport with her audiences. Her "truth disguised in poetry" draws audiences in; the room becomes electric when she sings, creating an atmosphere of intimacy and introspection.

In her early twenties, Annie was already an accomplished musician. She studied at Berklee College of Music and under Pete Rogine, a jazz guitarist in New York. She completed her Bachelor''s degree in Music, majoring in Jazz Studies, at the University of Arizona. Annie teaches guitar and music theory to individuals and ensemble courses at the Prime School in Tucson.

Annie has adopted alternate tunings using DADGAD, and open G, and other tuning to produce distinctive tensions in her chords. This also enables her to bend the rules of conventional music theory and create original structures for her songs. Her techniques are rarely found in the folk music circles.

Annie Hawkins demonstrates a highly professional attitude toward her music, constantly refining and expanding her skills She continues as a complelling sincere performer with a distinctive style and sound.

Her latest CD, "Up In the Sky" is a collaboration with local music producer, Stuart Kupers. His personal credits include 6 years (1989 to 1995) as the guitarist, bass player and composer for Mammoth/Atlantic Records recording artists Machines of Loving Grace. The single "Golgatha Tenement Blues" was part of the double-platinum motion picture soundtrack album for Miramax-Dimension''s 1994 feature film "The Crow". The song "Weatherman" was used in Academy Entertainment''s 1993 feature film "Quick". Machines of Loving Grace had 3 music videos featured on MTV. The band''s music was also used on MTV''s "The Real World", "MTV Sports", on CBS Television''s "Due South" and on performances on "Extra" and "Entertainment Tonight".
