Often times instrumental guitar music quickly creates listener fatigue. Soul To Strings purpose is to take the listener on a life journey through whatever feelings & emotions they are currently going through. You will not be bored with endless solos, as the goal is to bring a very musical element to the table. Welcome to the NEW style of melodic instrumental guitar playing.
Most typical songs on the radio either have no solo at all, or ones that lasts about 30 seconds tops. To capture the attention of a listener for a full instrumental song can become challenging for many, but for Soul To Strings this is what the writing process is all about. Carefully crafted songs are slowly worked on, making every note count. Melody & "singing" guitar lines are extremely present in all songs.
The self-titled debut "Soul To Strings" brings you 11 guitar driven songs without vocals. This is the guitar work by a one man band, by the name of Brad Moore. Brad also plays bass , all rhythm guitars, and programs all backing music with the help of several drum machines. Not stopping with just the lead guitars, Brad is known to layer many guitars playing at one time creating a wall-of-sound. Learning from many arena rock bands such as Sponge, U2, Rolling Stones, and the Gin Blossoms, there is a very strong emphasis in rhythm work on all of the songs also. Bands with 2 guitarist are able to produce a very BIG sound wether they are playing the same thing together, or jamming 2 separate parts.
Another very interesting note to make is Soul To Strings hip-ness to vintage & boutique gear. He is very in tune with the top gear available today. Check out the official web page to learn more about his gear & his notes on each piece of equipment used.
Soul To Strings also has a 2nd CD called "Change is..." which was released on the same date as the self-titled disc. This album is available for download, or on the official Soul To Strings web site. "Change is..." focuses on lots of different styles of music such as blues, country, funk, & acoustic playing. Check it out when you have a chance!
Now for some notes about the "Soul To Strings" CD.
1. Never Ending - This track was written on & around my wedding date. It was actually recorded & mastered to disc the day before the wedding...busy times! The clean arpeggio guitars are played with a Fender Start & Twin amp with the TC Electronic Chorus pedal. The distorted rhythm is all Naylor Superdrive. Some of the rhythm guitars on this track reminds me of Van Halen. ALL of the lead & melody guitar tone is a Matchless DC-30 and my valley arts guitar in the bridge pickup.
2. Every Single Beat - I love the heartbeat drums to start this one out. The only amp used in this recording is the Fender Twin w/ JBL speakers. The only guitar used was a Hamer Daytona strat. I begin using a Homebrew UFO pedal near the end when the song really kicks in.
3. Mind Trap - The influence to this song was Jeff Beck''s more modern stuff. While many people prefer his older stuff, I honestly can''t get enough of the new. This was a fun track to record, I loved the end result. It''s a Hamer Daytona Strat in the mid/neck position through a Randall RT-30 amp. This amp is basically a Vox/Matchless knock off which does a great job for biting midrange tones. It is the only class A amp ever built in the Randall line to my knowledge, and was discontinued years ago.
4. Climbing to Faith - This is a song I started many years ago. It kind of developed into this long song over time, but never intentionally. I enjoy the ending parts of the song, and most of it reminds me of early Satriani music. This is the Samick/Valley Arts guitar with a Roland Jazz Chorus & Tube Works amp in stereo. A DS-1 pedal & Boss delay are the only effects used.
5. Under the Weather - Written during a very bad flu bug. Roland Jazz Chorus amp & Fender Telecaster guitar plays pretty much the entire song. The effects were a Fulltone Fulldrive boosted with the DS-1 with all the knobs off except the level.
6. Angels - This was recorded quite a while ago, and while I''d probably arrange it completely different now the end result was good. The clean guitars are with a Peavey Classic head & the lead guitar is a Peavey Wolfgang with a Marshall JCM800 amp.
7. This Moment - This is a song that takes the listener on a journey. I kept finding new segments to add because I loved the backing music so much. The tone here is 2 Fender Twin amps in stereo with the Fulltone Fulldrive & DS-1 together. I do not recall the guitar used on this recording, but it definitely has humbuckers.
8. Flash in the Pan - This is if Van Halen & the Rolling Stones got in a fight, and Eric Johnson comes in to break it up for the chorus. This uses lots of skipping arpeggios for the lead part also. The only amp in this song is a Matchless DC-30, and the only guitar is my red Fender USA standard strat. The jaw-dropping Homebrew UFO pedal is also used on this song with the MG "That''s Echo Folks" delay.
9. The Valentine - This is the 1st instrumental song I ever composed. It was written around a lonely Valentines day with a Peavey Wolfgang & a Marshall JCM800 amp. The clean guitars are all Fender Twin, main guitar was the Samick/Valley arts hybrid.
10. Midtown Lights - An interesting crowd favorite here. Near the end when everything kicks in, I felt a very Neal Schon / Neil Zaza vibe. I used a Naylor Superdrive for the distorted parts in conjunction with a Homebrew UFO. The clean stuff is all Fender Twin & Hamer Daytona guitar.
11. Trisha''s Song - A song for my lovely wife. I hope to do more songs in a similar fashion to this one coming soon. The rhythm & lead guitars circle around & play together so nicely. Then, the song is brought back "home" at the end to where the journey began. The Red Fender USA strat is used throughout, along with 2 Twin amps in stereo. For the overdriven section , it is the Fulldrive & DS1 together again.
