Details:
Enchanted by Mozart is a recording of Sonatas K. 311, 330, 533/494, and 331. The CD is a survey of Mozart''s greatest late-period music expressively played on a fine Viennese fortepiano after Stein, built by Johannes Secker. The notes include a transcription of Mozart''s glowing letter about Stein''s instruments.

The music shows the influence of Mozart''s greatest enthusiasms: Austrian alpine folk music, the opera, and the keyboard style of J. S. Bach. Includes the famous "Rondo alla Turca". The CD contains 52 minutes of music.

Biography: Susan Adams was born in Ottawa and studied the piano privately Jaromey Anderson and as an undergraduate under Boris Roubakine at the University of Calgary.

After winning a Canada Coucil grant, she studied early keyboard instruments and related subjects at the Schola Cantorum in Basel, Switzerland. She majored in harpsichord with Jean-Claude Zehnder, with whom she also studied continuo and organ, and studied the literature of the fortepiano with Klaus Linder. Susan had many insights about the nature of music for early keyboard instruments while playing the well-maintained collection at the Musikinstrumenten Museum in Basel.

Travels to Holland enabled her to have invaluable coaching from one of the world''s most prominent authorities on the subject of historic keyboard music, Gustav Leonhardt.

Returning to Canada Susan continued performing the works of Bach, Couperin, Rameau and Scarlatti on an ever-widening variety of harpsichords, and the music of Haydn, Mozart and J.C. Bach on the fortepiano.

More recently, the acquisition of a Stein model Viennese fortepiano by Johannes Secker turned her attention to the performance and recording of one of her favorite composers, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. This led to a CD of four late sonatas.

After a CD recording project in 1998 involving a Broadwood square piano of 1825 (Constancy Rewarded, also available from CD Baby), Susan purchased a 1809 John Broadwood and Sons grand pianoforte. After a year-long restoration, it took her in the direction of performing the music of Ludwig van Beethoven with an historical approach.

(A photo essay of the restoration is posted on the Early Music Studio website: https://www.tradebit.com; a series of pieces recorded on this remarkable instrument is planned.)
