The Circle G’z redefine southern rap around the globe
The Circle G’z are turning heads from Houston to London, redefining the sound of Houston and southern rap. With recent performances with Talib Kweli, Redman and Bun B and an upcoming performance with Slick Rick in Miami, it won’t be long before the Circle G’z are a household name.
Houston, TX September 20th, 2007—The Circle G’z have just signed on to perform live in Miami with none other than hip-hop icon, Slick Rick. The show, which is being thrown by the world famous Sneaker Pimps world shoe tour, will also feature DJ Tiger Lilly and Mista Mal and will be thrown @ The Collins in Miami, FL.
The Circle G’z, are a conglomerate of Houston MC’s who have come together to bring Houston back to the forefront of music not for cars and jewelry but for content and character of song. In the mold of the Geto Boyz, The CGz are King HEAD, Jamez Boogie, A-R Dubb and No Remorse. All the production is handled by Droop, who doubles as an MC also. They are all signed to their own imprint, Circle City Entertainment, which is based in Houston, Texas.
For those unfamiliar with the Circle G’z, their history does not begin in 2007. Formed by King HEAD at Houston’s Worthing High School in 1998, the Circle G’z immediately became a force in the underground of Houston rap. Alongside future major acts such as The G.R.I.T. Boyz and Lil Flip, they performed at talent shows and local functions. Upon graduation, the group added Jamez Boogie and No Remorse and began their assault on the hip-hop world.
This is not the first major show that the Circle G’z have performed at. In 2003, the CGz opened for every single Houston act that was available. From Big Pokey to Lil Keke to Paul Wall to Slim Thug, the CGz opened for them at various night spots around Houston. Their prowess even spurned outside of Houston, performing with Z-Ro in Beaumont, Juvenile in Shreveport, LA and Kiotti in Austin. They even opened for the Entourage in the height of their ‘Bunny Hop’ tour.
Of course, over the years the CGz have produced a plethora of songs and several projects have been released to the public. Welcome to Circle City Vol.1 and Vol. 2, Welcome to Circle City; Reloaded and Welcome to the H: We Got Next have been successful releases for the group with features from The Clipse, the legendary K-Rino, the late greats HAWK and K-Ruger, Kiotti, Mook Jones, Kritikal and many others. The CD’s were also mixed by some of Houston’s top DJ’s, DJ Chill and DJ J Bo$$ being two of them who gave their services to projects.
