Heaton began singing as young as 5. During his adolescence he began writing his first songs. During this time he won several talent competitions including "Young Stars of Tomorrow" in his home town of St. Helens. At the age of 15 he recorded his first demo @ Parr Street Studios in Liverpool called "Real Love". On the strength of that simple demo he was invited down to Reading, Berkshire to record an EP of tracks with Decca Records engineer Phillip Siney. Over this transitional period he went through many changes and was part of several manufactured pop groups, which unfortunately or fortunately (depending on how you look at it) went nowhere due to splits and management takeovers.
The year 2000 saw the biggest change in both his career and musical direction. He moved to Manchester and began writing and recording with electro producers The Brooklyn Foundation. This resulted, a year later, in the blueprint debut album aptly named "Labeless". Both the initial recordings and song writing partnership caught the eye of several management companies, who all offered their ideas and contracts, none of which were suitable or acceptable. Desperate to find people & an audience on the same wave length he then turned to the growing internet music scene.
In 2002 Heaton went about setting up his own website to test reactions to his material and to try out different styles. The original "Labeless" album was remixed and released through the Vitaminic Internet Label with new track "100 Miles". The album sold respectively with only word of mouth as promotion and "100 Miles" went on to top the Vitaminic Download Chart. At the same time Heaton was busy writing and recording more new material with "The Brooklyn Foundation" and in May 2003 the first track from the forthcoming "Computer Music" album was released. That track was called "Let It go"
"Let It Go" exploded onto the net and entered the download chart at #1. It remained there for several weeks and remained in the top 10 of the chart for the best part of 12 months. During it''s rein it topped a total of 5 different unsigned music sites and received both critical and commercial acclaim. To this date the track has been downloaded and streamed over 10,000 times. "Better Than B4" & "True Blue" were the next 2 singles released. "Better Than B4" reached #1 and "True Blue" a respectable #4. In March 2004 new track "Nothing Beautiful Remains" was released and went straight in at #1 followed by the independent release of "Computer Music" the album. With Heaton''s internet presence cemented the initial release of the album was a huge success, selling heavily in the UK market but also seeing sales from Australia, Japan & the US. Some Manchester record stores actually sold out of copies at one point and more stock had to be brought in.
During this period Heaton was desperate to extend this success to live venues but wanted to represent the songs with a live band. In October of that year he did just that and played a sell out gig at "The Retro Bar", Manchester. The night was a huge success and featured press coverage from The Manchester Evening News who crowned Heaton "The Download King".
Heaton has now left the Vitaminic Group and has signed an independent DRM (Digital Rights Management) deal to release the updated "Computer Music" album worldwide. His music is now registered for UK airplay and will shortly be available across the major music sites such as MSN Music and iTunes.
At the time of writing Heaton has begun writing and recording sessions for album #3. The as yet untitled follow up to the Computer Music album looks set to be interesting. Although only in the writing and very early recording stages several unsigned and soon to be signed artists are already setting up home in the Heaton camp to lend a hand in the album''s future.
In the meantime enjoy the completed "Computer Music" album. A collection of tracks recorded between 2001 - 2005 showcasing some of the best tracks recorded (so far) from this emerging new artist.
A new internet music age has evolved and at the top of the pile is guy they simply call - HEATON.
