Details:
High Society, Buffalo''s rising hip-hop sensation, was founded in 1998 when aspiring rapper https://www.tradebit.com (Jason Sokody) recruited local musician/songwriter Ethan Westmoore to assist him in co-writing a hip-hop album. https://www.tradebit.com had been writing and performing his original work at house parties and local venues and had begun recording his work at his home studio. Westmoore had been playing guitar with Friction, a local rock band, and had been performing original piano compositions at colleges and a number of other events.
https://www.tradebit.com and Westmoore''s songwriting chemistry was realized immediately and together they created a modern, edgy sound. https://www.tradebit.com''s influences ranged from Tupac and the Outlawz to the modern work of Method Man, Dr. Dre, Eminem and Mobb Deep; his aggressive lyrics and true life narratives gave the music of High Society a visceral quality as well as openness and honesty. Westmoore had extensive training in classical piano and rock guitar and infused the music of High Society with an eclectic blend of classical, blues, rock, and techno.
It was not long before https://www.tradebit.com and Westmoore invited local Buffalo rappers Trump (Jason Zgoda) and Johnny Knock (John Locurcio) to join the group. Trump and https://www.tradebit.com had many common influences and together created a novel East Coast sound. Trump''s vocal style and timbre, while unmistakably original, have often been compared to that of Method Man. Johnny Knock also shared East Coast influences and his flair for lyrical abstraction and intellectualism brought a new dimension to the music of High Society.
In the spring of 2002, https://www.tradebit.com discovered the vocal talents of Ellicottville phenom Dorrie Buchhardt and invited her to join the group. Dorrie''s vocal strength and sultry low-alto melodies gave High Society a more dynamic sound and have led them toward an ever increasing use of melodic vocal hooks.
High Society''s music has been described by its growing Buffalo following as "the balance between aggression and sophistication; a seamless melding of the raw and the refined."
