Details:
Welcome!! If you’ve made it this far, I’m assuming that (1) you like metal music and (2) you are willing to hear what it sounds like without a vocalist. I should warn you, this isn’t your typical instrumental (guitar virtuoso) album; this record showcases the sounds of a wide variety of metal styles. Solus Bruit mixes my favorite aspects of each genre into a rare metallic concoction I have dubbed InstruMetal.

Death Metal specializes in audio onslaught, Black Metal is praised for its haunting ambience, and Melodeath is admired for its gorgeous melodies. InstruMetal has all of these characteristics; its distinguishing quality is that it takes the vocalist out of the equation. The absence of a vocalist will undoubtedly decrease this record’s appeal to many metal fans. I understand that vocals add energy to a song that cannot be replaced with an added guitar or synthesizer track. However, the instrumentation achieves a special quality when heard in the absence of a vocalist. InstruMetal can be more personal to the listener because the songs are completely open to interpretation. Majestic metal epics are often marred by distasteful lyrics; InstruMetal is untainted by human ego or a vocalist’s sordid imagination.

When I started Instrumetalist, my intention was to create “musical” metal. I am a passionate fan of metal music in general; to me, nothing sounds sweeter that the blend of grinding chords and electric squeals over a merciless application of steady double bass. I truly believe that some of the most creative and talented individuals in the music profession are metal musicians.
However, far too often modern metal songs are devoid of structure and continuity. Exploding at the listener from different directions, they impart a sense of random chaos. There is a time and place for audio entropy, but excessive amounts can leave the listener frustrated and fatigued.

The songs on Solus Bruit unite harmony with aggression. Each guitar riff and keyboard sequence was written to compliment its neighbor; there are no sudden changes that completely shift the song’s direction. Rather, the rhythms and melodies smoothly transition into one another, gradually progressing until they climax and descend into the outro. Each track is a journey, a sonic excursion to be embarked upon by the listener.

Only 60 Solus Bruit compact disks were pressed; each comes packaged with full-color album artwork presented in a jewel case. The 60 hard copies also come with a free, exclusive vinyl 3.75” x 3.75” sticker of the album cover.*

My first album is priced painfully low to encourage music fans to give Instrumetalist a try. As a musician, having my work be appreciated by others would be the ultimate reward, well worth the countless hours I have invested bringing this album into existence. Rock on and enjoy!!

- The Instrumetalist

Solus: a Latin word meaning “alone”; source of the word
“solo”. In a musical context, a “solo” refers to music that is performed by one individual.

Bruit: din; clamor. The word was adapted from the archaic form “bruire” (to roar).

* The sticker comes enclosed in the compact disk case and is therefore only available to those who purchase the compact disk version of Solus Bruit. The sticker is not available to those who choose to download the album.
