Pike definitely has it roots firmly sunk into the soil of 90''s alternative and 80''s punk. With alternating male and female lead vocals and joyous harmonies, they''re reminiscent of bands like "X" or even the B52''s. With many songs featuring snarling, distortion-heavy guitars and driving rock percussion, though, those comparisons are quickly betrayed. Lyrically, you''ve got pop-cult/horrorshow/comic-geek poetry with an occasional "love" song here or an "I hate my job" song there. The songs bounce easily from heavy and loud to soft and sweet to dark and scary but always with a sense of melody and a playful smirk.
In addition to their local and regional gigs, Pike has also showcased at several national music conferences and festivals, including Invasion of the GoGirls @ South By Southwest (Austin, TX), Dfest (Tulsa, OK) and Midpoint Music Festival (Cincinnati, OH). Pike also won the annual Go Girls Battle of the Bands in Austin, Texas in July of 2006 (https://www.tradebit.com A hard-working, independent band with a head for out-of-the-box promotion, Pike was invited to write a theme song for the Cincinnati Rollergirls titled "Jawbreaker,” which is played during roller derby bouts and has been used with promotional materials.
