Having been tipped off by some zealot fans on an Internet community, I ventured out to Valencia, CA to check out The Hot Tramps. This hot new act met while attending classes at Cal Arts and has since generated quite a following.

I almost didn''t get to attend the event as when I pulled up to the guard station at the college, the guard took one look at me and knew I didn''t belong there. "I need the host''s name for you to enter." Host''s name? What the fuck was he talking about? All I knew was that The Hot Tramps were playing and I was there to cover the gig. "My name is Lucky and I am here representing SugarBuzz Magazine." I told the guard trying to be polite as possible. He looked at me skeptically as I handed him one of my business cards. Then to my amazement he wrote down my car''s license plate number and waved me through. Excellent.

The place was buzzing with young college age kids drinking, smoking and having a good time, right in the main building of the school. Man, I went to the wrong collage. They had an art exhibit happening in the upper level, some desecrated McDonald''s signs and an exhibit entitled "Floating Landscapes". Interesting.

I kept looking for an auditorium or theatre where the band was to perform but had no luck finding any. Then I turned the corner and discovered the band was set up in the hallway. Cool, they are jut going to jam right here. And jam they fucking did.

The Hot Tramps consists of Pluto Saffron (Rob Banks) on lead vocal and guitar, Dazzling Fascinating (Tyler Thacker) on drums, Neil Shoe on keytar, and Jeremy Belzer on bass. Also in attendance was a mystery girl playing various percussion instruments in the set. She wore a mask and put on a great show.

The band broke out their gear and ripped the joint with a badass tune called "Shake It Shake It".

The bands sound radiated garage rock meets a strong power punk influence, sounding like they had spent some time in the New York CBGB how to school. I heard some homage to The Strokes in their music, as well as a nod to New York Dolls, MC5, The Weirdos, Germs, and The Hives.

The band shook the audience up with powerful renditions of "Dixie Peach" and a song they were planning on taking into the studio that weekend, "Flux Capacitator". Doc Brown would be proud.

According to their set list the band played "Sleep And Cry" next, but after listening to this song on their website after the show I really don''t remember them playing it. I do however remember the band treated us to a classic rendition of their soon to be smash hit "The Blue Song". This song is really all that good. Genius.

"Ruby Sparks" features Pluto Saffron screeching vocals that sent chills up my spine. Very Darby Crash dare I say. I thought Dazzling was going to rip through the skins on his kit at any moment.

The Hot Tramps smashed us with "About Daydreams", "Suicide Girls" and "White Panthers". All blazing hot numbers.

The closer to this very intense set was a ripper entitled "Hot Love" Almost Kiss like in intro, I was feeling a Lou Reed like intensity as the number progressed.

The Hot Tramps are headed to New York for dates starting on Feb. 26 thru March 5. Check out their site at https://www.tradebit.com for more info.

I will go on record here...... The Hot Tramps will be on a major label and all over your radio in a very short period of time. This band is going to be huge.
