Now this is really three albums in one, with three distinct categories: a)raunch b)political blasphemy c)religious blasphemy. And while raunch is fairly identifiable, blasphemy is totally in the eye of the beholder. I''m fairly certain that right-wing fundamentalists will find most of the material offensive, whereas rational curmudgeons might be less disposed to palpitations.
Fortunately (or maybe unfortunately), there are very few subjects that can arouse a proper snit. Two of these subjects are race and religion, and so I have endeavored to introduce a sampling of each, on the off chance that I can provide something to offend everyone. (I''m assuming that sex and four-letter-words have lost the power to shock - or even raise an eyebrow).
Here is a list of the songs that threaten to be the most problematic:
#8. Crazy God - I''m sorry, but the God of the Old Testament
is a stark raving lunatic. Might as well tell it like
it is.
#11. Too Many Honkies - Honkies is a generally offensive
term, so I use it to identify a generally offensive
group of people - the political and economic elite.
#12. Hookah Dance - It is said that enjoyment of the
hookah is often accompanied by a lack of interest in
the subjugation and control of other people. This
would seem to be an argument in favor of the hookah.
#13. "In Defense Of Congress" - If you believe that Congress
is a force for good in this world, then you will not
enjoy this spoken satire. I wrote it after hearing a
memorial show about George Carlin, and was inspired
to copy his cynicism. (Unfortunately, the CD Baby
clip runs out before I get to the part about the fake
feminism of Nancy Pelosi and Hillary Clinton.)
#14. 9/11: Investigate - I don''t know why it''s controversial
to call for an honest and thorough investigation of
9/11, but it is. After squandering an astronomical,
incomprehensible amount on national defense, we have
a right to know why we didn''t get any.
#16. Lyin'' Bitch (Song For Hillary) - Hey, don''t blame me.
I''m not the bitch who lied. That would be Hillary.
NAFTA-loving, HMO-defending, War-voting Hillary.
#18. McCain In Hell - What makes McCain so evil is that he
pretends he''s not. This is a song about demonic
horror, and McCain''s obsession with the military
is (and will be) a horror to millions of people
around the world.
#21. "Here Come The Mormons" - Through their political
choices, Mormons try to force their religious values
on us all - whether we like it or not. Therefore I
have no regrets about laughing at their true history.
I''m sorry, but it''s amazingly stupid.
#22. Attack On Norm Coleman (1:27) – That''s SENATOR Norm
Coleman to you. Senator from Minnesota. Homeboy from
Screw-You City. Educated in Smarmytown. Current
resident of Hypocrite-On-The-Hill (a suburb of
Sellout Junction).
#23. Obama? - This song is not as pessimistic as it seems.
The theme - that "things never seem to change" - is
not a statement about America and our possibilities
for a better future. It only suggests that Obama will
be irrelevant to that brighter future. (And
the question mark in the title lets me off the hook
in case, as millions of decent people are hoping,
Obama manages to transcend all his corporate advisors
and becomes an agent of change.)
#25. Attack On Prudes – This was originally written in 1986
to mock the Supreme Court decision that upheld
sodomy laws in Georgia. These laws were contested
following the imprisonment of a gay couple for
having unapproved sex in the privacy of their own
home. Since then, the Supreme Court has changed its
mind, but many right-wingers have not.
#26. Rednecks! - Now I don''t mind the salt-of-the-earth
being uninformed about their political leaders. But I
expect them to kick some butt once they discover that
they''ve been swindled, lied to, and taken for a ride.
#28. Send Me A Sign - If God wants me to take Him seriously,
then here''s how: send me a sign!
#29. Songbird - So John McCain''s a hero? Yeh - right. He''s
never done anything that threatened his career, or
his wife''s wealth, or - in the case of the Hanoi
Hilton - his personal comfort. That''s right - McCain
was a songbird!
#32. Uribe Es Clon- I suppose I should avoid criticizing
leaders of countries that are not my own, but Uribe –
the President of Colombia who feasts on your tax
dollars - is such a world-class suck-up that he
deserves a tweaking. For a rough translation of the
