He has been awarded scholarships from the Canadian Government in recognition of his musical talent and has been featured on CBC television and radio. His new solo CD, Taalworks, is a breakthrough album, featuring tabla at the forefront, with interesting and new melodic textures, such as Beethoven''s Moonlight Sonata.

GEORDIE HALEY’S EAST DELTA TRIO ***
Summer Garden Party Verge
Recorded almost a year and a half prior to his recent Sea of Song Trio disc, Geordie Haley’s East Delta Trio’s Summer Garden Party offers insight into the Toronto-based guitarist’s continued development. Along with saxophonist Evan Shaw and renowned tablas player Vineet Vyas, Haley creates a sustained meditation on the intricate rhythms intrinsic to Indian classical music. While the lack of dynamics makes some of the longer pieces arduous to absorb, the interplay between Vyas’s playing and Haley’s percussive picking is hypnotic. Conversely, it’s the spare funkiness of “Minor Figure” and the brooding, bluesy “Ipperwash” where the East Delta Trio transcend the limits of the trio format. Chris B
