Wire Graffiti''s Poetic Dictionary is a literal reference guide to quality music. -Keely Remus, BAM Magazine
For their first album the band blends a mix of Folk, Pop and Alternative music (think PJ Harvey meets The Cranberries meets Natalie Merchant). These songs possess the emotional finesse only a poet could deliver. The songs are brimming with meaning yet maintain accessibility and focus. The first thing you will notice is the clarity of the music. Highlights include "Hollow Boxes" and "Through Thin Air", the latter being featured on KFOG''s Local Anesthetics.
"World With No Trees" and "Contraddiction" show the beginnings of a more quirky and hard-core influence that points in the direction the band would start to take on their second album.
Poetic Dictionary is beautifully produced by Stev Ohanis, however, the listener quickly gets the sense this music is all about the lyrics. These songs are meant to be performed and Sawyer is a performance artist in the truest sense. The production is very succinct, little that cannot be recreated live. Sawyer commented, "For the first album, it was all about the songs. Whatever the songs wanted, they got. That''s our style, really".
