WE ARE GOLDEN

This 5-song EP is the first music put out by new Seattle band We Are Golden. Formed by Seattle art scene veterans Sarah Rudinoff and Gretta Harley, We Are Golden mixes rock and blues rhythms, classical instruments creating melodic, full spaces in the music and a dash of Weimar Republic cabaret attitude- giving them a unique sound. The music is distinguished by a lush piano that goes from rock percussion to classical melodies, powerful vocals, virtuosic cello playing- (Joshua Roman, the Seattle Symphony’s youngest principal player in their history creates tongue and cheek Hendrix on his 400 year old cello as well as sweeping emotional melodies), lyrical guitars, eastern influenced clarinet parts, and a rhythm section willing to take risks as well as hold tight.

“We Are Golden seamlessly combines Sarah Rudinoff’s theatre chops and lusty voice with Gretta Harley’s accessible punk rock songwriting aesthetic. The result is original, thought-provoking, cello-filled and fun.”
- Carla DeSantis, Editor and Founder of ROCKRGRL Magazine

“Sarah Rudinoff sings from wa-a-a-a-a-y down deep in the gut, and her buttery voice flavors every molecule of air you breathe.”
– Sara Niegowski, The Seattle Weekly

“Rudinoff’s stage presence is thermonuclear (in a darling kind of way) and the golden gospel gravel of her sometimes soprano can ride a jazzy tune like a Harley on the bad road to heaven.” - Adrian Ryan, The Stranger

WE ARE GOLDEN BIO
After a year of writing and playing together, We Are Golden, formed by Sarah Rudinoff and Gretta Harley are releasing their first EP, recorded at Jupiter Studios by Martin Feveyear (Brandi Carlisle, Modest Mouse, Jesse Sykes). Both women come from varied art and music backgrounds. They came together through their love of melodic rock-n-roll and passions for the music of Joni Mitchell, Frank Zappa, Prince and The Pixies. In 2007, their first gig was opening with Lavender Diamond for Miranda July’s rock & roll reading in Seattle. They have since played Bumbershoot and will be the focus of the Seattle Channels’ Art Zone in the fall.

Sarah Rudinoff (Lead Vocals)
Named alongside Ernestine Anderson as one of the female vocalists with “pipes to die for” by this year’s Seattle Magazine music portfolio, Sarah Rudinoff has been singing and making theatrical mayhem in Seattle for 15 years. Rudinoff is an actress, singer and writer who has lived and worked from New York to Los Angeles. As a beloved Seattle actress, theatre audiences are familiar with Miss Rudinoff’s raw, emotional performances. Sarah has sang everywhere from the Showbox to Neumos to Joe’s Pub in NYC. Sarah was introduced to the Seattle rock world when she sang and played Yitzhak in Hedwig and the Angry Inch at Re-bar. Sarah is a Stranger Genius Award recipient in theater and has toured her solo shows from Portland’s TBA Festival to the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh to the Adelaide Festival in Australia.

Gretta Harley (Piano, Guitar, b/u vox)
Gretta Harley is a composer, classically trained piano player and rocking guitarist who swam in Seattle’s rock and avant garde worlds for the last 15+ years. Along with a solo career, and her bands Eyefulls; Monstro; and the celebrated power rock band, Danger Gens (Maxi Badd); she was a member of the Irish band, The Stevedores and Seattle Harmonic Choir. Ms. Harley is a co-founder of the non-profit organization, Home Alive and was the “pilot” producer for the Sony release, Home Alive: The Art of Self-Defense. Gretta holds a degree in music composition from Cornish College of the Arts where she composes for original projects and is on the faculty. She recently had a new piece premiered by the Seattle Chamber Players.

Sarah and Gretta hooked with veteran powerhouses of the Seattle music scene including the youngest principal player at the Seattle Symphony, Josh Roman on cello; ace rock drummer John Hollis (Sister Psychic, Ian Moore); multi-instrumentalist Rob Witmer (Awesome, Saint Bushmill’s Choir), rock guitar player Aaron Taylor (Radio Nationals); and monster bassist Steve Newton (Buttrock Suites, Nelson sings Nillson).
