Musicians Should Be Good Story Tellers
The story that is Infatuating Lena, began a few years back. There was a girl with a dream and a man with a lifetime of skill and a similar dream, though the road to where we are now was not an easy one. The thing with music is you have to love it. If you love it, then you will be able to endure the times when it is a huge struggle. It also really helps that if your band mate happens to be your father and likewise your daughter and also a really close friend. "We may have not come this far without the forgiveness of family."
Why do we love it? Tera says, "It is hard to say, I suppose it is like faith or belief. When you encounter the mysteries of music, your only choice is to fall in."
Dennis adds, "But whatever we do, it is because we believe in it. We have no interest in playing even one note for any other purpose. The group has always explored a wide range of style and sounds because of all the different ways we feel and perceive at different times in our lives"
But what does Infatuating Lena mean? Lena is our muse. We feel that a musician''s skill lays in their ability to infatuate the muse. So our group explores that notion of trying to infatuate her ourselves.
Infatuating Lena blends electronic music, exotic sounds and entrancing rhythms, combined with expressionist singing to tell good stories. These stories range from full-length song novellas like in "Coffeebreak", to short, but complete moments of thought as heard in "Smoke and Sand". Listen to this album as a book of related short stories about Lena, the Siren of Titan.

Infatuating Lena paints with every color upon the sonic canvas. Tera''s distinctive, sultry voice combined with the worlds first "EJ" Dennis (Everything Jockey), they call upon sounds from any and every source, thru electronic means and light beams.
Siren of Titan is their first CD.
They have their own label "We Bought the Universe" productions.
Infatuating Lena is a father/daughter duo consisting of female singer and synthesist Tera Drew and composer, performer Dennis Drew.
This two-some has had a wide range of musical experiences and influences. They started out as a recording group but have become interested in performing.
"We have access to any sound there is - exotic instruments, ambient sounds, rare drums, broken trucks crashing, urban sounds, and the noises of the world, and we use all these to tell our stories."
"After all that practicing we finally started playing out." Because Infatuating Lena writes all their own music and because their music bends toward the unique, they had to work hard.
We started playing together in 1999 and first performed in 2001 at a benefit concert.
Tera and Dennis performed the very eccentric "One Little Note" and "The Destruction of Rock" together at Wilmot Hall.
Lena''s music was featured on the WXXI radio program Music for the 21st Century, hosted by Chris Hickey. Four songs from a private release were played. "Raging Island" and "Coffeebreak" were some of the songs played.
Much of 2003 was spent in the studio crafting, arranging, and producing new material. Infatuating Lena''s near-term focus is to present this new music to you, while performing, touring and evolving.

Tera began seriously playing the piano 5 years ago and is completely self-taught.
" My strength is in improvisation. I had to work really hard to develop the discipline that is needed to not only play with other musicians, but to write good songs. Though just sitting down and playing the piano freely is sometimes the only thing that will get me through a bad day."
She has written over 100 songs. Everything from Tori Amos-esque ballads, to Billie Holliday blues pieces.
Tera is a junior member of the GFDSG Composers forum.
Tera is a prolific writer. "My roots are in poetry and story telling. I publish my own poetry to a website that I maintain myself."

Dennis has written and produced 1000''s of musical works. His latest, "The Destiny of Man" is a modernistic electro-musical, full orchestral, symphonic work that is 48 minutes long. He created a piece for 87 synthesizers and is often working with the never before heard or experienced.
He is a member of the GFDSG composer''s forum (the Genesee Floodplain District Soundcrafter''s Guild is a non-conformist composition group) including such notables as Steve Green, and Tim Sullivan. He has performed such revolutionary pieces as "The Destruction of Rock" and "Infinity" (which was performed on a beam of invisible light).
He produced the quirky word music group Floom''s first CD.
His music can be heard weekly on the National Public Radio show "What the Tech!"
Dennis is also an inventor. He has created 84 products that have been produced by industry. He was one of the original group that started Alibris, the online, rare and used book company.
He won a contest for creating the best musical algorithms. These continue to be distributed and used throughout the musical community.
Has developed a "Black Book" of musical composition tools and algorithms. (Algorithms are ways to do things musically).
"I believe in writing a musical work and inventing something new every day", says Dennis. "While in the process of creation there should be no decision about whether something is good or bad or in between. While creating, you should never make that judgment. Only afterwards can you go back and audition your own work for quality. It''s much more important to get a flow going."
He says, "There''s a man vs. machine question running throughout the music world. As an artist I embrace it all. Musical instruments played artistically, computers playing back sounds, synthesized.......the important thing is the music."
"This is the greatest time to be a composer. You have access to literally any sound there is. On the other hand, music in our society is at the bottom. Lawyers, business, banks and political leaders are at the top. So, mostly, musicians are afraid, today. For the average musician there''s so little money to be made, they''re afraid to do anything different at all. And they are more subjugated than anyone. Musicians are unfairly treated and used."
