Details:
Mississippi soul-singer Jennifer Dixon is not your average female artist. Born in Flowood, MS and raised in Southaven(just outside of Memphis), Jennifer has a style that is uniquely her own. Her rich vocals are influenced by husky-voice greats such as Etta James, Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, Bonnie Raitt, Sheryl Crow, Eva Cassidy, and Dusty Springfield.
After a vocal scholarship in college, Jennifer spent some time singing in the Memphis bars and and some Beale Street clubs. including performing as a backup singer for 60''s pop-singer Bobby Freeman. Her tireless persuit of her career as an established artist has led her on a road of highs and lows. Jennifer has worked a countless number of jobs to support herself and her dreams.
In late 2000, she felt a calling to move to Nashville and be among the nations'' best of the music industry.
She soon landed gigs with The Black Widow Band, a seasoned, soul-funk cover band out of Nashville, that kept her busy doing clubs, weddings, and special events to pay the bills and keep up her voice. She also performed with legendary sax player to the late James Brown, Waldo Weathers. Jennifer made the cut for a jingle-singer in a television commercial for Tennessee Lottery as well as singing demos for other writers in Nashville.
Her talent was discovered by the creative director of Bluewater Music and was signed to a developmental artist deal. Jennifer then wrote tirelessly with some well-known writers in the Nashville songwriting community, such as A.J. Masters, Kristy Jackson, Dean Miller, and Tony Ramey. She also has had a chance to show a her lighter side while doing radio comedy skits for United Stations, to add to her endless resume of career opportunies.
After completing a project for the country labels, her creative development contract ended with the shift in the Nashville music industry in May 2005.
Jennifer has continued to stand out and show her true soulful ability by doing writers nights, occasional gigs at clubs in Nashville, and countless hours of demos for other writers'' songs, while finding her audience that will embrace her unique style of artistry. In 2007, she was the vocalist for "A Bluegrass Tribute to Julie Roberts" and "A Bluegrass Tribute to K.T. Tunstall" for CMA records. Her first independent cd "2 years", produced by herself and Jim Reilley, feature musicians such as Steve Bowman(Counting Crows),Charlie Chadwick(Shelby Lynn), and a duet with Pat McLaughlin."2 years" is an album that has been tagged as very "un-Nashville", which goes back to the R&B and Rock roots that she grew up on.
Dixon has proven to be a top-notch artist with the focus and dedication to her musical career which will surely allow her to continue to rise to the top.
